The book addresses this question in two interrelated ways: - by situating the consumption of television within the full range of structures, patterns and practices of everyday life; - and by retrieving the importance of location as fundamental to these structures, patterns and practices - and, consequently, to the experience of television. This approach, involving collaboration between authors from cultural studies and cultural anthropology, offers new ways of studying the consumption of television - in particular, the use of the notion of 'zones of consumption' as a new means of locating television within the full range of its spatial, temporal, cultural, political and industrial contexts. Although the study draws its examples from a wide range of locations (the US, the UK, Australia, Malaysia, Cuba, and the Chinese language markets in Asia -- Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Taiwan), its argument is strongly informed by the evidence and the insights which emerged from ethnographic research in Mexico. This research site serves a strategic purpose: by working on a location with a highly developed and commercially successful transnational television industry, but which is not among the locations usually considered by television studies written in English, the limitations to some of the assumptions underlying the orthodoxies in Anglo-American television studies are highlighted. This book is a valuable and original contribution to television, media and cultural studies, and anthropology, presenting approaches and evidence that are new to the field"--$cProvided by publisher. 606 $aForeign television programs$xHistory and criticism 606 $aTelevision broadcasting$xSocial aspects 606 $aTelevision broadcasting$xInfluence 606 $aMass media and culture 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aForeign television programs$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aTelevision broadcasting$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aTelevision broadcasting$xInfluence. 615 0$aMass media and culture. 676 $a791.45 700 $aPertierra$b Anna Cristina.$0761734 701 $aTurner$b Graeme$f1947-$0476319 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910452264503321 996 $aLocating television$92220426 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01700nam 2200541 a 450 001 9910779628803321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a1-62257-940-2 035 $a(CKB)2550000001042626 035 $a(EBL)3020444 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000860638 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12384597 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000860638 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10913913 035 $a(PQKB)10109627 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3020444 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3020444 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10677482 035 $a(OCoLC)834604367 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000001042626 100 $a20121127d2013 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aPlatinum$b[electronic resource] $ecompounds, production and applications /$fLeonid Varennikov and Eduard Yedemsky, editors 210 $aHauppauge, N.Y. $cNova Science Publishers, Inc.$d2013 215 $a1 online resource (165 p.) 225 1 $aChemical engineering methods and technology 225 1 $aMaterials science and technologies 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a1-62257-939-9 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 410 0$aMaterials science and technologies series. 410 0$aChemical engineering methods and technology. 606 $aPlatinum 615 0$aPlatinum. 676 $a669/.24 701 $aVarennikov$b Leonid$01501245 701 $aYedemsky$b Eduard$01501246 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910779628803321 996 $aPlatinum$93728369 997 $aUNINA
