The four directors-Konstantin Stanislavsky, Bertolt Brecht, Elia Kazan, and Peter Brook-all were monarchs of the profession in their time. Without their work, theatre in the twentieth century-so often called ";the century of the director"; -would have a radically different shape and meaning. The four men are also among the dozen or so modern directors whose theatrical achievements have become culture phenomena. In histories, theories, hagiographies, and polemics, these directors are conferred classic stature, as are the four plays on which they worked. Chekhov's The Seagull, Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children, and Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire have long been recognized, in the theatre and in the study, as masterpieces. They are anthologized, "ed, taught, parodied, read, and produced constantly and globally. The culturally conservative might question the presence of MaratiSade in such august company, but Peter Weiss's play stands every chance of figuring in Western repertories, classroom study, and theatrical histories until well into the twenty-first century. In their quite different ways, these are all classics of that Western drama which is part of our immediate heritage. 606 $aBrecht, Bertolt, 1898-1956 -- Knowledge -- Performing arts 606 $aBrecht, Bertolt, 1898-1956 606 $aBrook, Peter 606 $aChaika 606 $aChekhov, Anton Pavlovich, 1860-1904 606 $aKazan, Elia 606 $aMutter Courage und ihre Kinder 606 $aStanislavsky, Konstantin, 1863-1938 606 $aStreetcar named Desire 606 $aTheater - Production and direction 606 $aTheater -- Production and direction 606 $aTheatrical producers and directors - Biography 606 $aTheatrical producers and directors -- Biography 606 $aVerfolgung und Ermordung Jean Paul Marats 606 $aWeiss, Peter, 1916-1982 606 $aWilliams, Tennessee, 1911-1983 608 $aElectronic books. 615 4$aBrecht, Bertolt, 1898-1956 -- Knowledge -- Performing arts. 615 4$aBrecht, Bertolt, 1898-1956. 615 4$aBrook, Peter. 615 4$aChaika. 615 4$aChekhov, Anton Pavlovich, 1860-1904. 615 4$aKazan, Elia. 615 4$aMutter Courage und ihre Kinder. 615 4$aStanislavsky, Konstantin, 1863-1938. 615 4$aStreetcar named Desire. 615 4$aTheater - Production and direction. 615 4$aTheater -- Production and direction. 615 4$aTheatrical producers and directors - Biography. 615 4$aTheatrical producers and directors -- Biography. 615 4$aVerfolgung und Ermordung Jean Paul Marats. 615 4$aWeiss, Peter, 1916-1982. 615 4$aWilliams, Tennessee, 1911-1983. 676 $a792.023 676 $a792.02330722 676 $a792/.0233/0922 700 $aJones$b David Richard, $4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01016739 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910455540203321 996 $aGreat Directors at Work$92380595 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05563nam 2200685Ia 450 001 9910779563503321 005 20130426111241.0 010 $a1-299-46698-2 010 $a1-78190-622-X 035 $a(CKB)2550000001019466 035 $a(EBL)1170009 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000991202 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11620900 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000991202 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10994822 035 $a(PQKB)10672379 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1170009 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1170009 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10687771 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL477948 035 $a(OCoLC)840922561 035 $a(UtOrBLW)bslw09060415 035 $a(PPN)187305838 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000001019466 100 $a20130426d2013 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurun||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aBlack male teachers$b[electronic resource] $ediversifying the United States' teacher workforce /$fedited by Chance W. Many education policymakers and researchers falsely believe that Black male teachers have a primary responsibility to foster the social development of Black male students. However, increasing the presence of Black male teachers improves the diversity of the profession and should be viewed as a benefit to the system, as they provide quality services to all students regardless of race and/or gender. This edited volume offers sound suggestions for advancing diversity in the teaching profession. It provides teacher education programs with needed training materials to accommodate Black male students, and school district administrators and leaders with information to help recruit and retain Black male teachers. Each chapter will feature policy and practice recommendations and a case example to spur action and increase opportunities for discussion. 410 0$aAdvances in Race and Ethnicity in Education. 606 $aEducation$xMulticultural Education$2bisacsh 606 $aTeaching staff$2bicssc 606 $aTeachers, Black$zUnited States 606 $aAfrican American teachers$zUnited States 606 $aMulticultural education$zUnited States 615 7$aEducation$xMulticultural Education. 615 7$aTeaching staff. 615 0$aTeachers, Black 615 0$aAfrican American teachers 615 0$aMulticultural education 676 $a370.117 676 $a371.1008996 676 $a371.1008996073 701 $aLewis$b Chance W$g(Chance Wayne),$f1972-$01129312 701 $aToldson$b Achebe$f1973-$01471175 801 0$bUtOrBLW 801 1$bUtOrBLW 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910779563503321 996 $aBlack male teachers$93737272 997 $aUNINA
