That physical descriptions carry moral freight in characterization has been largely missed in modern biblical scholarship, and this study brings that to the forefront. Specifically, this is a study of one particular physical marker?blindness. When we look at Greco-Roman literature, a kind of literary topos begins to emerge, a set of assumptions that ancient audiences would typically make when encountering blind characters. Luke-Acts makes use of such a topos in a way that becomes programmatic, serving as a kind of interpretive key to Luke-Acts that is generally unnoticed in modern scholarship. 410 0$aBiblical interpretation series ;$vv. 94. 606 $aCharacter$xBiblical teaching 606 $aBlindness in the Bible 606 $aPhysiognomy 615 0$aCharacter$xBiblical teaching. 615 0$aBlindness in the Bible. 615 0$aPhysiognomy. 676 $a226.4/066 700 $aHartsock$b Chad$01570606 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910778695203321 996 $aSight and blindness in Luke-Acts$93844362 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03085nam 22006495 450 001 9910252703203321 005 20251030105638.0 010 $a9781137435323 010 $a1137435321 024 7 $a10.1057/978-1-137-43532-3 035 $a(CKB)4340000000061896 035 $a(DE-He213)978-1-137-43532-3 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4922098 035 $a(Perlego)3501156 035 $a(EXLCZ)994340000000061896 100 $a20170722d2017 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn|008mamaa 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aGay Men?s Working Lives, Retirement and Old Age /$fby Peter Robinson 205 $a1st ed. 2017. 210 1$aLondon :$cPalgrave Macmillan UK :$cImprint: Palgrave Macmillan,$d2017. 215 $a1 online resource (XVIII, 291 p.) 225 1 $aGenders and Sexualities in the Social Sciences,$x2947-8790 300 $aIncludes index. 311 08$a9781137435316 311 08$a1137435313 327 $aChapter 1: Content and scope -- Chapter 2: Working lives of men aged 60 and older; Chapter 3: Working lives of men aged 45?60 -- Chapter 4 Working lives of men aged 45 and younger -- Chapter 5: Old age fears or concerns -- Chapter 6: Old age plans -- Chapter 7: Conclusion -- . 330 $aThis book examines the working lives, retirement plans, and old age experiences of three generations of gay men born 1924?86. It draws on data collected from interviews with 82 men in Australia, England, New Zealand, and USA. The first half of the book concentrates on the men?s working lives, while the second half of the book explores the interviewees? concerns about old age and retirement. The author analyses the men?s contrasting stories, highlighting key generational differences in their experience of being ?out? in the workplace and the dominant work narratives which emerge in each age group. This important work will have cross-disciplinary appeal to scholars of sociology, gerontology, health sciences, gender, queer, and gay and lesbian studies, as well as practitioners. 410 0$aGenders and Sexualities in the Social Sciences,$x2947-8790 606 $aSex 606 $aIndustrial sociology 606 $aSociology 606 $aSocial groups 606 $aEthnology 606 $aGender Studies 606 $aSociology of Work 606 $aSociology of Family, Youth and Aging 606 $aSociocultural Anthropology 615 0$aSex. 615 0$aIndustrial sociology. 615 0$aSociology. 615 0$aSocial groups. 615 0$aEthnology. 615 14$aGender Studies. 615 24$aSociology of Work. 615 24$aSociology of Family, Youth and Aging. 615 24$aSociocultural Anthropology. 676 $a306.7662 700 $aRobinson$b Peter$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$011817 702 $aMcQueen$b Humphrey$f1942- 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910252703203321 996 $aGay Men?s Working Lives, Retirement and Old Age$92534493 997 $aUNINA
