General Sir Gerald Templer: A Short Bibliographical Note -- $tBIBLIOGRAPHY -- $tINDEX -- $tABOUT THE AUTHOR 330 $aDr Comber's account of General Templer's administration in Malaya as High Commissioner and Director of Operations (1952-54) during the Malayan Emergency departs from the usually accepted orthodox assessment of his time in Malaya by focusing on the political and socioeconomic aspects of his governance rather than the military. In doing so, Dr Comber has relied mainly on primary and other first-hand sources, including the confidential reports sent from Malaya by the Australian Commission to the Australian government in Canberra, and the private papers of some of the leading Malayan politicians of the time with whom Templer had dealings which have been deposited in the ISEAS Library, Singapore, many of which have not been used before.
The evidence and facts that Dr Comber marshals in this study reflect well the reservations that were often felt about General Templer's authoritarian form of government. While he was a good general and had an impressive military record, his administration in Malaya was marred by a lack of understanding of the background to Malaya's history and the subtleties that are inherent in its culture and way of life which would have enabled him to come to terms more easily with the aspirations of the Malayan people for self-government and independence. 606 $aBIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY / Political$2bisacsh 607 $aMalaya$xHistory$yMalayan Emergency, 1948-1960 607 $aMalaya$xPolitics and government 615 7$aBIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY / Political. 676 $a959.5104 700 $aComber$b Leon$0665346 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910795916703321 996 $aTempler and the road to Malayan independence$93793444 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02054oam 2200577zu 450 001 9910778145303321 005 20210721060418.0 010 $a1-282-27026-5 010 $a9786612270260 010 $a0-299-21913-5 035 $a(CKB)1000000000477230 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000245222 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11237129 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000245222 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10176509 035 $a(PQKB)11559108 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3444679 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000477230 100 $a20160829d2006 uy 101 0 $aeng 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aShaping science and technology policy : the next generation of research 210 31$a[Place of publication not identified]$cUniversity of Wisconsin Press$d2006 225 0 $aScience and technology in society Shaping science and technology policy 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 $a0-299-21910-0 606 $aScience and state$xDecision making 606 $aTechnology and state$xDecision making 606 $aResearch$xInternational cooperation 606 $aScience and state$xCitizen participation 606 $aTechnology and state$xCitizen participation 606 $aPhysical Sciences & Mathematics$2HILCC 606 $aSciences - General$2HILCC 615 0$aScience and state$xDecision making 615 0$aTechnology and state$xDecision making 615 0$aResearch$xInternational cooperation 615 0$aScience and state$xCitizen participation 615 0$aTechnology and state$xCitizen participation 615 7$aPhysical Sciences & Mathematics 615 7$aSciences - General 676 $a338.9/26 700 $aGuston$b David H.; Sarewitz, Daniel R$01507690 702 $aSarewitz$b Daniel R 702 $aGuston$b David H 801 0$bPQKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910778145303321 996 $aShaping science and technology policy : the next generation of research$93738639 997 $aUNINA
