It explains how, due to the pressure of having to plan every single working hour of studying in advance, a ?Sudoku Effect? is created by the necessity to combine courses, exams and modules in such a way that the points ?add up?. An unintentional side effect of the introduction of the ECTS, the Sudoku Effect has led to more classroom style teaching, an inflation of exams and fewer choices available to students. It has resulted in such complex and contradictory guidelines for the planning of the curriculum that the values attributed to the higher education reform can often only be realised if the rules for Bachelor?s and Master?s programmes are ignored, or at least stretched, in practice. The book describes how the reaction to this situation is the continuous further refinement of the complicated rules rather than their abolishment. 410 0$aSpringerBriefs in Education,$x2211-193X 606 $aEducation, Higher 606 $aEducation$xCurricula 606 $aEducational sociology 606 $aHigher Education 606 $aCurriculum Studies 606 $aSociology of Education 615 0$aEducation, Higher. 615 0$aEducation$xCurricula. 615 0$aEducational sociology. 615 14$aHigher Education. 615 24$aCurriculum Studies. 615 24$aSociology of Education. 676 $a378.16 700 $aKühl$b Stefan$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0688789 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910768469803321 996 $aThe Sudoku Effect: Universities in the Vicious Circle of Bureaucracy$93657615 997 $aUNINA
