The two conferences were held on September 22?26, 2003 in Cavtat, a small tourist town in the vicinity of Dubrovnik, Croatia. As machine learning and knowledge discovery are two highly related fields, the co-location of both conferences is beneficial for both research communities. In Cavtat, ECML and PKDD were co-located for the third time in a row, following the successful co-location of the two European conferences in Freiburg (2001) and Helsinki (2002). The co-location of ECML2003 and PKDD2003 resulted in a joint program for the two conferences, including paper presentations, invited talks, tutorials, and workshops. Out of 332 submitted papers, 40 were accepted for publication in the ECML2003 proceedings, and 40 were accepted for publication in the PKDD2003 proceedings. All the submitted papers were reviewed by three referees. In addition to submitted papers, the conference program consisted of four invited talks, four tutorials, seven workshops, two tutorials combined with a workshop, and a discovery challenge. 410 0$aLecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence ;$v2838 606 $aData structures (Computer science) 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aLogic, Symbolic and mathematical 606 $aMathematical statistics 606 $aDatabase management 606 $aInformation storage and retrieval 606 $aData Structures and Information Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I15009 606 $aArtificial Intelligence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I21000 606 $aMathematical Logic and Formal Languages$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I16048 606 $aProbability and Statistics in Computer Science$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I17036 606 $aDatabase Management$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I18024 606 $aInformation Storage and Retrieval$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I18032 615 0$aData structures (Computer science) 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 0$aLogic, Symbolic and mathematical. 615 0$aMathematical statistics. 615 0$aDatabase management. 615 0$aInformation storage and retrieval. 615 14$aData Structures and Information Theory. 615 24$aArtificial Intelligence. 615 24$aMathematical Logic and Formal Languages. 615 24$aProbability and Statistics in Computer Science. 615 24$aDatabase Management. 615 24$aInformation Storage and Retrieval. 676 $a006.3 702 $aLavrac?$b Nada$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aGamberger$b Dragan$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aBlockeel$b Hendrik$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aTodorovski$b Ljupco$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 712 12$aEuropean Conference on Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910768454203321 996 $aKnowledge Discovery in Databases: PKDD 2003$92262770 997 $aUNINA
