It explores the connections between politics and culture (specifically theatre) and between political theory and cultural (theatrical) expression. The book is organized chronologically and uncovers much in labour and theatre history which is in danger of being lost. It can also be seen as a way into different moments in its subject?s story (e.g. post-Ibsen naturalism; agitprop theatre; ?fringe? theatre of the 1970s) and the relationship of such forms to specific political events and ideas at specific points in history. Robert Leach taught at Birmingham and Edinburgh Universities and was also a freelance theatre director. He has published more than a dozen books on theatre subjects, including Theatre Workshop: Joan Littlewood and the Making of Modern British Theatre and An Illustrated History of British Theatre and Performance both of which were shortlisted for Theatre Book of the Year. 606 $aTheater?History 606 $aWorld politics 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aGreat Britain?History 606 $aTheatre History 606 $aPolitical History 606 $aPolitical Theory 606 $aHistory of Britain and Ireland 615 0$aTheater?History. 615 0$aWorld politics. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 0$aGreat Britain?History. 615 14$aTheatre History. 615 24$aPolitical History. 615 24$aPolitical Theory. 615 24$aHistory of Britain and Ireland. 676 $a792.022 700 $aLeach$b Robert$0294885 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910768442103321 996 $aBritish Socialist and Workers Theatre$93658081 997 $aUNINA
