And what must be their nature if they do? This book provides a careful and assured survey of the central issues of debate surrounding universals, in particular those issues that have been a crucial part of the emergence of contemporary analytic ontology. The book begins with a taxonomy of extreme nominalist, moderate nominalist, and realist positions on properties, and outlines the way each handles the phenomena of predication, resemblance, and abstract reference. The debate about properties and philosophical naturalism is also examined. Different forms of extreme nominalism, moderate nominalism, and minimalist realism are critiqued. Later chapters defend a traditional realist view of universals and examine the objections to realism from various infinite regresses, the difficulties in stating identity conditions for properties, and problems with realist accounts of knowledge of abstract objects. In addition the debate between Platonists and Aristotelians is examined alongside a discussion of the relationship between properties and an adequate theory of existence. The book's final chapter explores the problem of individuating particulars. The book makes accessible a difficult topic without blunting the sophistication of argument required by a more advanced readership. 410 0$aCentral problems of philosophy. 606 $aUniversals (Philosophy) 615 0$aUniversals (Philosophy) 676 $a111.2 700 $aMoreland$b James Porter$f1948-,$0859521 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910820984803321 996 $aUniversals$94050948 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04074nam 22007335 450 001 9910767510803321 005 20251008143607.0 010 $a9783031448478 010 $a3031448472 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-44847-8 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC30965596 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL30965596 035 $a(OCoLC)1410593320 035 $a(CKB)29026795800041 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-44847-8 035 $a(EXLCZ)9929026795800041 100 $a20231122d2023 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aDecoloniality in the Grassroots and The Re-emergence of the Black Organic Intellectual /$fby Ornette D. By blending the decolonial processes of Indigenous rights via a liberation Psychology lens, Brazilian critical race scholarship and UK African diasporic collective consciousness via intersectional critical race studies, the authors provide a clear theoretical framework to show how a decolonised multi-layered community epistemology can be produced by the community for the community that in praxis form, can be employed for the fight for social justice within those communities.
