Our book tells a dramatic story of ?Abd al-Majid al-Qadiri, a Muslim individual born in the Kazakh lands and brought up in the Sufi environment of the South Urals, who memorized the entire Qur?an at the Mosque of the Prophet. In Russia he travelled widely, performing the Qur'an recitations. The Stalinist terror was merciless to him: in total, he spent fifteen years of his life in labour camps in Solovki, in the North, and Tashkent, in the south. At the end of his life, al-Qadiri wrote the fascinating memoirs that we analysed and translated in this book for the first time. Al-Qadiri?s life account allows us to look at the history of Islam in Russia from a new angle. His lively language provides access to everyday concerns of Russia?s Muslims, their personal interactions, their emotions, and the material world that surrounded them. Al-Qadiri?s book is a book of memory, full of personal drama and hope. 410 0$aEurasian Studies Library ;$v17 517 3 $aThe Memoirs of ?Abd al-Majid al-Qadiri 606 $aAsian Studies 606 $aMuslims$zRussia 606 $aCommunism$zSoviet Union$xHistory 606 $aMuslims$zSoviet Union 606 $aNationalism and socialism 607 $aAsia, Central 610 1$aIslam in the Soviet Union 610 0$aRussian Muslims 615 4$aAsian Studies. 615 1$aMuslims 615 0$aCommunism$xHistory. 615 0$aMuslims 615 0$aNationalism and socialism. 676 $a900 701 $aQa?diri?$b ?Abd al-Mag?i?d al-? ?$f1881-1962.$01427060 702 $aUsmanov$b Vener 702 $aBustanov$b Al?frid K. 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910743399603321 996 $aMuslim Subjectivity in Soviet Russia$93559828 997 $aUNINA
