Is Bilingualism Good or Bad?. 330 $aThis book examines a century of research on the relationship between bilingualism and intelligence and relates it to more recent research on bilingualism and executive functioning. In doing so, it highlights how bilingualism research has been understood and used by wider society and its impact on current debates in cognitive science as well as language policy and education. The book probes the correlation between the fact that while early intelligence research suggested a negative effect of bilingualism on intelligence, the so-called ?Bilingual Problem?, later research implied a positive effect, ?the Bilingual Advantage.? It questions whether the negative consequences that arose from the Bilingual Problem are influencing researchers? reluctance to let go of the Bilingual Advantage. Findings on both the bilingual ?advantage? and ?disadvantage? are shown to have suffered from similar methodological problems, with research into the former finding itself at the centre of the ongoing replication crisis in psychology. This book provides fresh insights that will be of particular interest to students and scholars of cognitive psychology, psycholinguistics, bilingualism, applied linguistics, education and the history of science. 606 $aCognitive psychology 606 $aPsycholinguistics 606 $aMultilingualism 606 $aPsychology 606 $aSocial sciences?History 606 $aLanguage and languages?Study and teaching 606 $aScience?History 606 $aCognitive Psychology 606 $aPsycholinguistics and Cognitive Lingusitics 606 $aMultilingualism 606 $aHistory of Psychology 606 $aLanguage Education 606 $aHistory of Science 606 $aPsicologia cognitiva$2thub 606 $aPsicolingüística$2thub 606 $aMultilingüisme$2thub 606 $aLlenguatge i llengües$2thub 608 $aLlibres electrònics$2thub 615 0$aCognitive psychology. 615 0$aPsycholinguistics. 615 0$aMultilingualism. 615 0$aPsychology. 615 0$aSocial sciences?History. 615 0$aLanguage and languages?Study and teaching. 615 0$aScience?History. 615 14$aCognitive Psychology. 615 24$aPsycholinguistics and Cognitive Lingusitics. 615 24$aMultilingualism. 615 24$aHistory of Psychology. 615 24$aLanguage Education. 615 24$aHistory of Science. 615 7$aPsicologia cognitiva 615 7$aPsicolingüística 615 7$aMultilingüisme 615 7$aLlenguatge i llengües 676 $a929.605 700 $aMattschey$b Jennifer$01373002 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910734851503321 996 $aThe Effects of Bilingualism on Non-Linguistic Cognition$93403905 997 $aUNINA
