Her study focuses on the modal and semi-modal verbs of strong obligation and necessity in Hong Kong English, Indian English, and Singapore English based on the relevant ICE component corpora. She adopts a typologically-informed perspective on variation in World Englishes by comparing the structures of the speakers? first languages with the structures of the emergent varieties in the expression of epistemic modality. Beyond this, she analyses language change by constructing apparent-time scenarios to compensate for the lack of diachronic corpora in World Englishes. 410 0$aLanguage and Computers$v82. 606 $aEnglish language$xModality 606 $aEnglish language$xDiscourse analysis 606 $aCorpora (Linguistics) 606 $aSociolinguistics 615 0$aEnglish language$xModality. 615 0$aEnglish language$xDiscourse analysis. 615 0$aCorpora (Linguistics) 615 0$aSociolinguistics. 676 $a425/.6 700 $aHansen$b Beke$01788403 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910954950703321 996 $aCorpus linguistics and sociolinguistics$94323237 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04258nam 22006615 450 001 9910733726403321 005 20251116204040.0 010 $a9783030025984 010 $a3030025985 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-030-02598-4 035 $a(OCoLC)1228813624 035 $a(MiFhGG)GVRL59NC 035 $a(CKB)4100000007158848 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5601944 035 $a(MiFhGG)9783030025984 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-030-02598-4 035 $a(Perlego)3494573 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000007158848 100 $a20181119d2018 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurun|---uuuua 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aContemporary U.S. Latinx Literature in Spanish $eStraddling Identities /$fedited by Amrita Das, Kathryn Quinn-Sánchez, Michele Shaul 205 $a1st ed. 2018. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Palgrave Pivot,$d2018. 215 $a1 online resource (x, 135 pages) 225 1 $aLiteratures of the Americas,$x2634-6028 311 08$a9783030025977 311 08$a3030025977 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $a1. This is partly due to the erroneous impression that this literature is only written in English, and partly due to traditional educational programs focusing on English texts to include non-Spanish speakers and non-Latinx students. This has created a vacuum in research about Latinx literary production in Spanish, leaving the contemporary field wide open for exploration. This volume fills this space by bringing contemporary U.S. Latinx literature in Spanish to the forefront of the field. The essays focus on literary production post-1960 and examine texts by authors from different backgrounds writing from the U.S., providing readers with an opportunity to explore new texts in Spanish within U.S. Latinx literature, and a departure point for starting a meaningful critical discourse about what it means to write and publish in Spanish in the U.S. Through exploring literary production in a language that is both emotionally and politically charged for authors, the academia, and the U.S., this book challenges and enhances our understanding of the term 'Americas'. 410 0$aLiteratures of the Americas,$x2634-6028 606 $aLatin American literature 606 $aComparative literature 606 $aLanguage and languages$xStyle 606 $aLatin American/Caribbean Literature 606 $aComparative Literature 606 $aStylistics 615 0$aLatin American literature. 615 0$aComparative literature. 615 0$aLanguage and languages$xStyle. 615 14$aLatin American/Caribbean Literature. 615 24$aComparative Literature. 615 24$aStylistics. 676 $a860.9 676 $a860.9868073 702 $aDas$b Amrita 702 $aQuinn-Sa?nchez$b Kathryn 702 $aShaul$b Michele 801 0$bMiFhGG 801 1$bMiFhGG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910733726403321 996 $aContemporary U.S. Latinx Literature in Spanish$93397680 997 $aUNINA
