It engages in ethnographic research through the first-hand accounts of 37 asylum seekers, adapted from interviews conducted by Sophia University?s Refugee Voices Japan project. The perceptions, policies, and practices related to asylum seekers are products of the systemic invisibilisation of mobility and migrants? roles throughout Japanese history, despite their highly politicised presence in mainstream discourses. The ePaper addresses the continued absence of knowledge about asylum seekers by centralising their voices and stories, which opens a window into the complex realities of their experiences of displacement and seeking asylum in Japan. Their narratives demonstrate that the immigration regime severely restricts all aspects of their lives. Yet, asylum seekers are not passive victims ?stuck in limbo? but are active members of society employing various strategies in search of solutions for a less precarious life. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Vahabzadeh Foundation for financially supporting the publication of best works by young researchers of the Graduate Institute, giving a priority to those who have been awarded academic prizes for their master?s dissertations. 517 $aSeeking Asylum in Japan 606 $aAsian Studies 606 $aDemography 606 $aSocial Issues 606 $aacteurs non étatiques et société civile 606 $aassimilation 606 $aculture religion et identité 606 $aémigration 606 $aethnographie 606 $ahumanisme 606 $aimmigration 606 $amigrations et réfugiés 606 $apolitiques de migration 606 $aculture religion and identity 606 $adiscrimination 606 $amigration and refugees 606 $amigration policy 606 $anon-state actors and civil society 606 $apublic discourse 615 4$aAsian Studies 615 4$aDemography 615 4$aSocial Issues 615 4$aacteurs non étatiques et société civile 615 4$aassimilation 615 4$aculture religion et identité 615 4$aémigration 615 4$aethnographie 615 4$ahumanisme 615 4$aimmigration 615 4$amigrations et réfugiés 615 4$apolitiques de migration 615 4$aculture religion and identity 615 4$adiscrimination 615 4$amigration and refugees 615 4$amigration policy 615 4$anon-state actors and civil society 615 4$apublic discourse 700 $aOrikasa$b Minami$01370625 801 0$bFR-FrMaCLE 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910731414903321 996 $aSeeking Asylum in Japan: Oral Tales of a Contemporary Other$93398851 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01870oam 2200469M 450 001 9910716163403321 005 20200213070917.6 035 $a(CKB)5470000002518480 035 $a(OCoLC)1065605260 035 $a(OCoLC)995470000002518480 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002518480 100 $a20071213d1926 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aReplacement of the M Street Bridge over Rock Creek in the District of Columbia.
