Drawing on critical perspectives from religious studies, the book combines a genealogical assessment of the role of religion in international law with a detailed textual study of the reporting practice of the committees monitoring racial discrimination, civil and political rights, women's rights, and children's rights. Årsheim argues that the role of religion within the rights traditions monitored by the committees varies to the extent that their recommendations risk contradicting one another, thereby undermining their credibility and potential to bring about real change on the ground: Where some committees view religion singularly as a core individual right, others see religion partly as an inherent threat to the realization of other rights, but also as a potent social force to be reckoned with. In order to remedy this situation, Årsheim proposes the publication of a joint general comment by all the committees, spelling out their approach to the role of religion in the implementation of human rights. 410 0$aReligion and Society 606 $aReligious issues & debates$2bicssc 606 $aSociology$2bicssc 610 $aLaw. 610 $aUnited Nations. 610 $ahuman rights. 610 $areligion. 615 7$aReligious issues & debates 615 7$aSociology 676 $a341.4/832 700 $aÅrsheim$b Helge, $0897661 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996309067003316 996 $aMaking Religion and Human Rights at the United Nations$92005527 997 $aUNISA LEADER 02275nam 2200433 450 001 9910719609403321 005 20231129185701.0 035 $a(CKB)5860000000306909 035 $a(NjHacI)995860000000306909 035 $a(EXLCZ)995860000000306909 100 $a20230627d2023 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aMultipolarity after Ukraine $eold wine in new bottles? /$fEdited by Aldo Ferrari, Eleonora Tafuro Ambrosetti 210 1$aMilan :$cLedizioni,$d2023. 210 4$d©2023 215 $a1 online resource (126 pages) $cillustrations 311 $a88-5526-876-7 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 330 $aOne year after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the war has exacerbated the rift between Russia and the "collective West".While Western governments have been steadfast in punishing Russia for the invasion, other countries around the world have been more ambiguous, at times even choosing to side with Moscow politically or economically. These dynamics have revived the idea of a shift towardsmultipolarity along an anti-Western trajectory. Are we really heading in that direction? Are we facing increasing fragmentation due to the war or a re-consolidation of longstanding alliances? What principles underlie the formation of these blocs? What are the consequences of these dynamics for global security and the global economy? This Report aims to shed light on these questions, while also outlining the war's possible future implications for the Russian Federation, the "West", and the international order. 517 $aMultipolarity after Ukraine 606 $aWorld politics$y21st century 606 $aRussian Invasion of Ukraine, 2022 607 $aWestern countries$xForeign relations 607 $aRussia (Federation)$xForeign relations 615 0$aWorld politics 615 0$aRussian Invasion of Ukraine, 2022. 676 $a909.83 702 $aAmbrosetti$b Eleonora Tafuro 702 $aFerrari$b Aldo 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910719609403321 996 $aMultipolarity after Ukraine$93392266 997 $aUNINA
