These reports cite a statement made by a Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson at a daily press conference on April 26, 2013. According to Tokyo Kyodo News Service (Kyodo), the spokesperson said: "The Diaoyu [Senkaku] Islands are about sovereignty and territorial integrity. Of course, it's China's core interest." If China has indeed elevated the Senkaku Islands to a core interest, then this could represent a significant shift in China's policy and rhetoric on the dispute. However, close examination of China's historical use of the 'core interest' formulation and its carefully crafted statements during and following the April 26 press conference suggest the Chinese government has not changed its approach to the Senkaku Islands dispute. 606 $aDiplomatic relations$2fast 606 $aInternational law$2fast 607 $aSenkaku Islands$xInternational status 607 $aChina$xForeign relations$zJapan 607 $aJapan$xForeign relations$zChina 607 $aChina$2fast 607 $aJapan$2fast 607 $aPacific Ocean$zSenkaku Islands$2fast 615 7$aDiplomatic relations. 615 7$aInternational law. 700 $aCampbell$b Caitlin$01394789 712 02$aU.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, 801 0$bDID 801 1$bDID 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bZCU 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bGPO 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910716623003321 996 $aChina's "core interests' and the East China Sea$93510953 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03287nam a2200421 i 4500 001 991004318737107536 005 20240417145102.0 008 240417s2021 dcua b 000 0 eng d 020 $a9781944466473$q(online) 020 $a9781944466480$q(paperback) 040 $aBibl. The tests were selected for their simplicity and widespread availability, especially in countries where few institutions deal with the conservation of important buildings or monuments and where laboratories capable of the necessary analyses are scarce. Most tests can be carried out without the resources of a complete conservation laboratory. Methods include microscopy, ion test strips, the Scotch Tape test, RILEM tube water absorption, water vapor transmission, and three tests that can be run sequentially-capillary water absorption coefficient, total immersion, and evaporation curves. Some of these tests aid in the examination of building materials and the characterization of salts and other condition problems, which will help to determine the appropriate methods and materials for conservation and restoration"--$cProvided by publisher 542 $cSmithsonian Institution$fCompilation copyright ©2021 Smithsonian Institution$g2021 546 $aEnglish 650 4$aHistoric preservation 650 4$aBuilding materials$xEvaluation$vHandbooks, manuals, etc. 650 4$aTesting$xEquipment and supplies$vHandbooks, manuals, etc. 700 1 $aCharola, A.
