This volume inverts the traditional perspective: its focus is on the strong dependency between scripture and aesthetics, holy books and material artworks, sacred texts and ritual performances. The contributions, written by a group of international specialists in Western, Byzantine, Islamic and Jewish Art, are committed to a comparative and transcultural approach. The authors reflect upon the different strategies of »clothing« sacred texts with precious materials and elaborate forms. They show how the pretypographic cultures of the Middle Ages used book ornaments as media for building a close relation between the divine words and their human audience. By exploring how art shapes the religious practice of books, and how the religious use of books shapes the evolution of artistic practices this book contributes to a new understanding of the deep nexus between sacred scripture and art. 606 $aAesthetics$xReligious aspects 606 $aArt and religion 606 $aReligious literature$xHistory and criticism 606 $aSacred books$xHistory and criticism 610 $aBook illumination. 610 $aBook religion. 610 $aMateriality. 610 $aOrnament. 615 0$aAesthetics$xReligious aspects. 615 0$aArt and religion. 615 0$aReligious literature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aSacred books$xHistory and criticism. 676 $a203.7 702 $aGanz$b David 702 $aSchellewald$b Barbara$f1952- 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910807225603321 996 $aClothing sacred scriptures$94071656 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01778oas 2200589 a 450 001 9910893383903321 005 20251105213014.0 011 $a1989-6158 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2523913-2 035 $a(OCoLC)581494021 035 $a(CONSER) 2013240123 035 $a(CKB)991042743073516 035 $a(EXLCZ)99991042743073516 100 $a20100326b19851990 uy 101 0 $aspa 135 $aurbn||||||abp 135 $aurbn||||||ada 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aAnales de filologi?a hispa?nica /$fUniversidad de Murcia 210 $a[Murcia] $cSecretariado de Publicaciones e Intercambio Cienti?fico, Universidad de Murcia$d1985-1990 311 08$a0213-4365 517 1 $aAFH 606 $aSpanish language$vPeriodicals 606 $aSpanish philology$vPeriodicals 606 $aSpanish literature$xHistory and criticism$vPeriodicals 606 $aSpanish language$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01128292 606 $aSpanish literature$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01128568 606 $aSpanish philology$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01128644 608 $aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 615 0$aSpanish language 615 0$aSpanish philology 615 0$aSpanish literature$xHistory and criticism 615 7$aSpanish language. 615 7$aSpanish literature. 615 7$aSpanish philology. 712 02$aUniversidad de Murcia 801 0$bOCLCE 801 1$bOCLCE 801 2$bIXA 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910893383903321 996 $aAnales de filología hispánica$94265158 997 $aUNINA
