Patton's Third Army attempted to cross an assault force at several points across the Moselle River to establish a bridgehead and then encircle three German Army divisions in the city of Nancy, France. With a plan that closely followed U.S. river crossing doctrine, Third Army's XII Corps executed a wet gap crossing south of the town of Nancy with the 35th Infantry Division as the bridgehead force and 4th Armored Division as the breakout force. As planned, the successful wet-gap crossing opened the southern route to Nancy and allowed the 80th Infantry Division to initiate a similar crossing north of the city. The establishment of multiple bridgeheads enabled Patton's Third Army to return to what had made it successful during its advance across France--mobility. At 50 minutes, this film is full of historical footage and photographs, digitally-enhanced maps, and current wet gap crossing doctrine. 517 $aFrance '44 606 $aNancy, Battle of, Nancy, France, 1477 606 $aMilitary doctrine 606 $aMilitary doctrine$2fast 607 $aFrance$xHistory$yGerman occupation, 1940-1945 608 $aVideo recordings.$2fast 608 $aVideo recordings.$2lcgft 608 $aInternet videos.$2lcgft 608 $aDocumentary films.$2lcgft 615 0$aNancy, Battle of, Nancy, France, 1477. 615 0$aMilitary doctrine. 615 7$aMilitary doctrine. 702 $aGuttormsen$b Kate 702 $aWright$b Donald P.$f1964- 702 $aMasten$b Randy 702 $aRousseau$b David B. 702 $aHerrera$b Richardo 702 $aJackson$b Joni 702 $aZapata$b Chago 712 02$aArmy University Press (U.S.), 801 0$bGPO 801 1$bGPO 801 2$bGPO 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bCOM 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bGPO 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910713557903321 996 $aFrance '44 : wet gap crossings at Nancy$93298943 997 $aUNINA
