After the fall of the Manchu dynasty in 1912, Xianyu's father gave his daughter to a Japanese friend who was sympathetic to his efforts to reclaim power. This man raised Xianyu, now known as Kawashima Yoshiko, to restore the Manchus to their former glory. Her fearsome dedication to this cause ultimately got her killed. Yoshiko had a fiery personality and loved the limelight. She shocked Japanese society by dressing in men's clothes and rose to prominence as Commander Jin, touted in Japan's media as a new Joan of Arc. Boasting a short, handsome haircut and a genuine military uniform, Commander Jin was credited with many daring exploits, among them riding horseback as leader of her own army during the Japanese occupation of China. While trying to promote the Manchus, Yoshiko supported the puppet Manchu state established by the Japanese in 1932-one reason she was executed for treason after Japan's 1945 defeat. The truth of Yoshiko's life is still a source of contention between China and Japan: some believe she was exploited by powerful men, others claim she relished her role as political provocateur. China holds her responsible for unspeakable crimes, while Japan has forgiven her transgressions. This biography presents the richest and most accurate portrait to date of the controversial princess spy, recognizing her truly novel role in conflicts that transformed East Asia. 410 0$aAsia perspectives. 606 $aWomen spies$zJapan$vBiography 606 $aSino-Japanese War, 1937-1945$vBiography 606 $aChinese$zJapan$vBiography 606 $aPrincesses$zChina$zManchuria$vBiography 607 $aChina$xHistory$yRepublic, 1912-1949$vBiography 615 0$aWomen spies 615 0$aSino-Japanese War, 1937-1945 615 0$aChinese 615 0$aPrincesses 676 $a951/.8042 700 $aBirnbaum$b Phyllis$01681685 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910824787503321 996 $aManchu princess, Japanese spy$94051236 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03411oas 2201105 a 450 001 9910140055103321 005 20251105213014.0 011 $a2330-0582 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2066731-0 035 $a(OCoLC)60640259 035 $a(CONSER) 2012235154 035 $a(CKB)962824883036 035 $a(EXLCZ)99962824883036 100 $a20050615a19089999 uy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurun||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe mathematics teacher 210 $a[Lancaster, Pa.] $cAssociation of Teachers of Mathematics in the Middle States and Maryland$d1908- 210 2 $a[New York.] $cNational Council of Teachers of Mathematics 210 2 $aWashington, D.C. $cNational Council of Teachers of Mathematics 210 3 $aReston, VA $cNational Council of Teachers of Mathematics 215 $a1 online resource 300 $aAfter a several month hiatus, The Mathematics teacher will relaunch in January 2020 as: The Mathematics teacher: learning and teaching PK-12. 311 1 $a0025-5769 311 1 $aPrint version: The Mathematics teacher (Print) 0025-5769 311 1 $aMicroform version: The Mathematics teacher (Microfilm) 0025-5769 311 1 $aOnline version: The Mathematics teacher (Online) 2330-0582 517 1 $aMT 517 1 $aMathematics teacher :$elearning and teaching PK-12 606 $aMathematics$vPeriodicals 606 $aMathematics$xStudy and teaching$vPeriodicals 606 $aMathe?matiques$vPe?riodiques 606 $aMathe?matiques$xE?tude et enseignement$vPe?riodiques 606 $aMathe?matiques$xE?tude et enseignement (Secondaire)$vPe?riodiques 606 $aMathematics$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01012163 606 $aMathematics$xStudy and teaching$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01012236 606 $aWiskunde$2gtt 606 $aVakdidactiek$2gtt 608 $aCzasopismo matematyczne.$2dbn 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 615 0$aMathematics 615 0$aMathematics$xStudy and teaching 615 6$aMathe?matiques 615 6$aMathe?matiques$xE?tude et enseignement 615 6$aMathe?matiques$xE?tude et enseignement (Secondaire) 615 7$aMathematics. 615 7$aMathematics$xStudy and teaching. 615 17$aWiskunde. 615 17$aVakdidactiek. 676 $a510/. 712 02$aAssociation of Teachers of Mathematics in the Middle States and Maryland, 712 02$aNational Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 801 0$bOCLCS 801 1$bOCLCS 801 2$bTXJ 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCE 801 2$bEYM 801 2$bHUL 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bWAU 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bCUD 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bKSU 801 2$bTSC 801 2$bILACE 801 2$bIAZ 801 2$bREC 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bEZC 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bCUI 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bUBY 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bREDDC 801 2$bAUD 801 2$bGZM 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910140055103321 996 $aMathematics teacher$9378085 997 $aUNINA
