Deborah Gewertz and Frederick Errington address the evolution of the meat trade itself along with the changing practices of exchange in Papua New Guinea. They show that flaps-which are taken from the animals' bellies and are often 50 percent fat-are not mere market transactions but evidence of the social nature of nutrition policies, illustrating and reinforcing Pacific Islanders' presumed second-class status relative to the white populations of Australia and New Zealand. 606 $aNutritional anthropology$zPacific Islands 606 $aLamb meat industry$zPacific Islands 606 $aMutton industry$zPacific Islands 606 $aAnimal gut industries$zPacific Islands 606 $aFood habits$zPacific Islands 607 $aPacific Islands$xForeign economic relations$zAustralia 607 $aPacific Islands$xForeign economic relations$zNew Zealand 610 $aanthropology. 610 $aaustralia. 610 $abelly meat. 610 $acontroversial. 610 $acuts of meat. 610 $adiscount meat. 610 $aethnic differences. 610 $aethnographers. 610 $afarms and farmers. 610 $afatty cuts. 610 $afatty meat. 610 $afiji. 610 $aflap food. 610 $afood politics. 610 $ahistorical. 610 $ahuman rights. 610 $ainexpensive meat. 610 $alamb. 610 $ameat farming. 610 $ameat market. 610 $ameat trade. 610 $amutton. 610 $anew zealand. 610 $anonfiction. 610 $anutrition policies. 610 $apacific islanders. 610 $apacific islands. 610 $apapua new guinea. 610 $asecond class status. 610 $asocial issues. 610 $asocial nutrition. 610 $asocial science. 610 $atonga. 610 $atrade policies. 615 0$aNutritional anthropology 615 0$aLamb meat industry 615 0$aMutton industry 615 0$aAnimal gut industries 615 0$aFood habits 676 $a394.1/20996.5 700 $aGewertz$b Deborah B.$f1948-$01475387 701 $aErrington$b Frederick Karl$01475388 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781196303321 996 $aCheap meat$93689591 997 $aUNINA
