What explains the recurrence of hostilities and yet the security of judicial power? Addressing this question anew, Stephen Engel points to the gradual acceptance of dissenting views of the Constitution, that is, the legitimacy and loyalty of stable opposition. Politicians' changing perception of the threat posed by opposition influenced how manipulations of judicial authority took shape. Engel's book brings our understanding of these manipulations into line with other developments, such as the establishment of political parties, the acceptance of loyal opposition, the development of different modes of constitutional interpretation and the emergence of rights-based pluralism. 606 $aPolitical questions and judicial power$zUnited States 607 $aUnited States$xPolitics and government 615 0$aPolitical questions and judicial power 676 $a342.73/044 700 $aEngel$b Stephen M.$01050563 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910457804303321 996 $aAmerican politicians confront the court$92480448 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02084oam 2200481 450 001 9910704480003321 005 20130731211847.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002440892 035 $a(OCoLC)847206532 035 $a(OCoLC)995470000002440892 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002440892 100 $a20130607d2013 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 10$aShort-term test results $emulltifamily home deep energy efficiency retrofit /$fprepared for: The National Renewable Energy Laboratory, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy's Building America Program, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy ; prepared by: James Lyons, Building America Partnership for Improved Residential Construction (BA-PIRC) 210 1$aGolden, CO :$cU.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, Building Technologies Program,$d2013. 215 $a1 online resource (viii, 25 pages) $ccolor illustrations 300 $aTitle from title screen (viewed June 5, 2013). 300 $a"January 2013." 300 $a"NREL technical monitor: Stacey Rothgeb." 300 $a"Prepared under subcontract no.
