Through colorfully narrated and skillfully analyzed case studies of their lawsuits and petitions, Herman Ooms traces the evolution of class and status conflicts in villages during this feudal era. Inspired by the work of Max Weber and Pierre Bourdieu, the author links detailed village analysis to a broader discussion of societal power fields and juridical domains. 330 8 $aOpening with an angry woman's lifelong struggle against village authority, Ooms's study examines how obscure historical actors, local elites, commoners, women, and outcastes manipulated the distinctions of class and status to their own advantage. The case studies offer a penetrating view of legal practice, including the position of women, inheritance customs, and particular forms of village justice. In a significant contribution to the legal history of outcaste populations, Ooms also studies the origins of discrimination against the ancestors of the burakumin population, a group that even now is struggling for equality in Japanese society. 517 $aTokugawa village practice 606 $aSocial classes$zJapan$xHistory 606 $aVillages$zJapan$xHistory 606 $aVillages$xLaw and legislation$zJapan$xHistory 606 $aSocial classes$zJapan$xHistory 606 $aVillages$zJapan$xHistory 606 $aVillages$xHistory$xLaw and legislation$zJapan 606 $aSociology & Social History$2HILCC 606 $aSocial Sciences$2HILCC 606 $aSocial Conditions$2HILCC 607 $aJapan$xSocial conditions$y1600-1868 607 $aJapan$xPolitics and government$y1600-1868 608 $aHistory.$2fast 615 0$aSocial classes$xHistory. 615 0$aVillages$xHistory. 615 0$aVillages$xLaw and legislation$xHistory. 615 0$aSocial classes$xHistory. 615 0$aVillages$xHistory. 615 0$aVillages$xHistory$xLaw and legislation 615 7$aSociology & Social History 615 7$aSocial Sciences 615 7$aSocial Conditions 676 $a306/.0952 700 $aOoms$b Herman$0641732 801 0$bDLC 801 1$bDLC 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910495955503321 996 $aTokugawa village practice$92864315 997 $aUNINA 999 $aThis Record contains information from the Harvard Library Bibliographic Dataset, which is provided by the Harvard Library under its Bibliographic Dataset Use Terms and includes data made available by, among others the Library of Congress LEADER 01153nam 2200361 a 450 001 9910703159403321 005 20241218121915.0 035 $a(CKB)3780000000265239 035 $a(OCoLC)729251633 035 $a(DcWaBHL)107999 035 $a(EXLCZ)993780000000265239 100 $a20110606d2010 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aCommon trees of Alaska /$fprepared by Forest Service 210 1$a[Juneau, AK] :$cU.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Forest Service, Alaska Region,$d[2010] 215 $a1 online resource (16 unnumbered pages) $cillustrations 215 $a1 online resource 225 1 $aAlaska Region R10-MB ;$v703 300 $aTitle from title screen (viewed on June 6, 2011). 300 $a"March 2010." 606 $aTrees$zAlaska 606 $aForests and forestry$zAlaska 615 0$aTrees 615 0$aForests and forestry 712 02$aUnited States.$bForest Service.$bAlaska Region. 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910703159403321 996 $aCommon trees of Alaska$93210773 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05001nam 22008175 450 001 9910299971103321 005 20251113182604.0 010 $a3-662-44926-9 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-662-44926-4 035 $a(CKB)3710000000281186 035 $a(EBL)1967185 035 $a(OCoLC)897132903 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001386720 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11826502 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001386720 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11374432 035 $a(PQKB)10332870 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1967185 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-662-44926-4 035 $a(PPN)183092775 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000281186 100 $a20141112d2014 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aProgress in Differential-Algebraic Equations $eDeskriptor 2013 /$fedited by Sebastian Schöps, Andreas Bartel, Michael Günther, E. It examines the wide range of current research topics in descriptor systems, including mathematical modeling, index analysis, wellposedness of problems, stiffness and different time-scales, cosimulation and splitting methods and convergence analysis. In addition, the book also presents applications from the automotive and circuit industries that show that descriptor systems provide challenging problems from the point of view of both theory and practice.   The book contains nine papers and is organized into three parts: control, simulation, and model order reduction. It will serve as an ideal resource for applied mathematicians and engineers, in particular those from mechanics and electromagnetics, who work with coupled differential equations. 410 0$aDifferential-Algebraic Equations Forum,$x2199-840X 606 $aDifferential equations 606 $aNumerical analysis 606 $aComputer simulation 606 $aMathematical models 606 $aComputer-aided engineering 606 $aDifferential Equations 606 $aNumerical Analysis 606 $aComputer Modelling 606 $aMathematical Modeling and Industrial Mathematics 606 $aComputer-Aided Engineering (CAD, CAE) and Design 615 0$aDifferential equations. 615 0$aNumerical analysis. 615 0$aComputer simulation. 615 0$aMathematical models. 615 0$aComputer-aided engineering. 615 14$aDifferential Equations. 615 24$aNumerical Analysis. 615 24$aComputer Modelling. 615 24$aMathematical Modeling and Industrial Mathematics. 615 24$aComputer-Aided Engineering (CAD, CAE) and Design. 676 $a003.3 676 $a510 676 $a515.352 676 $a518 702 $aSchöps$b Sebastian$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aBartel$b Andreas$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aGünther$b Michael$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $ater Maten$b E.
