Examining this phenomenon through the lens of kinematics, the science of forcing motion, Helmut Müller-Sievers provides a new view of the history of mechanics and of the culture of the industrial revolution, including its literature, that focuses on the metaphysics and aesthetics of motion. Müller-Sievers explores how nineteenth-century prose falls in with the specific rhythm of cylindrical machinery, re-imagines the curvature of cylindrical spaces, and conjoins narrative progress and reflection in a single stylistic motion. Illuminating the intersection of engineering, culture, and literature, he argues for a concept of culture that includes an epoch's relation to the motion of its machines. 410 0$aFlashPoints 606 $aCylinders 606 $aLiterature, Modern$y19th century$xThemes, motives 606 $aMachinery in literature 606 $aMechanics in literature 606 $aScience in popular culture 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aCylinders. 615 0$aLiterature, Modern$xThemes, motives. 615 0$aMachinery in literature. 615 0$aMechanics in literature. 615 0$aScience in popular culture. 676 $a809.915 700 $aMu?ller-Sievers$b Helmut$01057528 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910465198903321 996 $aThe cylinder$92492976 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00893nam 2200157z- 450 001 9910712186503321 035 $a(CKB)5470000002490244 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002490244 100 $a20230509c2019uuuu -u- - 101 0 $aeng 200 00$aAgreement between the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in Respect of Curaçao and the United States of America Concerning Access to and Use of Facilities in Curaçao for Humanitarian Supplies Reserved for the People of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela 210 $aWashington, D.C$cUnited States Department of State 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910712186503321 996 $aAgreement between the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in Respect of Curaçao and the United States of America Concerning Access to and Use of Facilities in Curaçao for Humanitarian Supplies Reserved for the People of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela$93352814 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01312oam 2200373Ka 450 001 9910701318703321 005 20120130104622.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002417884 035 $a(OCoLC)755132815 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002417884 100 $a20110929d1954 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 02$aA manual on conservation of soil and water$b[electronic resource] $ehandbook for professional agricultural workers 210 1$aWashington, D.C. :$cU.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service,$d1954. 215 $a1 online resource (iv, 207 pages) $cillustrations, plans 225 1 $aAgriculture handbook / United States Department of Agriculture ;$vno. 61 300 $aTitle from title screen (viewed on Jan. 30, 2012). 517 $aManual on conservation of soil and water 606 $aSoil conservation 606 $aWater conservation 615 0$aSoil conservation. 615 0$aWater conservation. 712 02$aUnited States.$bSoil Conservation Service. 801 0$bOCLCE 801 1$bOCLCE 801 2$bGPO 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910701318703321 996 $aA manual on conservation of soil and water$93547493 997 $aUNINA
