Looking at the dramatic transformations of the era-changes in the family and in the law, the emergence of the world's first police force, the growth of a national media, and more-Charles Upchurch asks how perceptions of same-sex desire changed between men, in families, and in the larger society. To illuminate these questions, he mines a rich trove of previously unexamined sources, including hundreds of articles pertaining to sex between men that appeared in mainstream newspapers. The first book to relate this topic to broader economic, social, and political changes in the early nineteenth century, Before Wilde sheds new light on the central question of how and when sex acts became identities. 606 $aGay men$zGreat Britain$xHistory 606 $aGay men$zGreat Britain$xSocial conditions 606 $aMen$xSexual behavior$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aHomosexuality$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aSex$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 607 $aGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 607 $aGreat Britain$xSocial conditions$y19th century 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aGay men$xHistory. 615 0$aGay men$xSocial conditions. 615 0$aMen$xSexual behavior$xHistory 615 0$aHomosexuality$xHistory 615 0$aSex$xHistory 676 $a306.76/62094109034 700 $aUpchurch$b Charles$f1969-$01045872 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453542503321 996 $aBefore Wilde$92472457 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01355nam 2200373 a 450 001 9910700314303321 005 20110614125050.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002409848 035 $a(OCoLC)730486536 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002409848 100 $a20110614d2010 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aAssessment of the SEC information technology investment process$b[electronic resource] 210 1$aWashington, D.C. :$cU.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Office of Inspector General, Office of Audits,$d[2010] 215 $a1 online resource (vi, 44 pages) 225 1 $aReport ;$vno. 466 300 $aTitle from title screen (viewed on June 9, 2011). 300 $a"March 26, 2010." 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 517 3 $aAssessment of the Security and Exchange Commission information technology investment process 606 $aInvestment of public funds$zUnited States 606 $aInformation technology 615 0$aInvestment of public funds 615 0$aInformation technology. 801 0$bGPO 801 1$bGPO 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910700314303321 996 $aAssessment of the SEC information technology investment process$93149333 997 $aUNINA
