With an innovative approach, based on the work of Norbert Elias, the author argues bullfight is the result of the interaction between transformations of society and decisions that aim to create bullfighting rules. In the course of history, bullfighting became civilized, that is, pacified, in the sense that the level of self-control in the conduct and emotions of both bullfighters and public increased. This does not mean that violence has disappeared, but that it has acquired new traits. This historical path, from the 15th century to the present, is reconstructed in these pages by analyzing bullfighting in Portugal through the viewpoint of the regulation of violence, its public exposure and its relationship with the population's patterns of behavior and sensitivity. 517 $aO processo civilizacional da tourada 606 $aSocial & cultural history$2bicssc 606 $aEuropean history$2bicssc 606 $aEarly modern history: c 1450/1500 to c 1700$2bicssc 606 $a20th century history: c 1900 to c 2000$2bicssc 610 $aPortugal 610 $abulfighting history 610 $ahistorical sociology 610 $aNorbert Elias 610 $ahistória da tourada 610 $asociologia histórica 610 $aHBTB 610 $aHBJD 610 $aHBLC1 610 $aHBLH 610 $aHBLW 615 7$aSocial & cultural history 615 7$aEuropean history 615 7$aEarly modern history: c 1450/1500 to c 1700 615 7$a20th century history: c 1900 to c 2000 700 $aAmpudia de Haro$b Fernando$4auth$01352610 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910688416803321 996 $aO processo civilizacional da tourada$93186461 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02186nam 2200553Ia 450 001 9910699646303321 005 20110303095755.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002404474 035 $a(OCoLC)704909838 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002404474 100 $a20110303d2010 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aLunar Surface Stirling power systems using isotope heat sources$b[electronic resource] /$fPaul C.
