In The Para-State, Aldo Civico draws on interviews with paramilitary death squads and drug lords to provide a cultural interpretation of the country's history of violence and state control. Between 2003 and 2008, Civico gained unprecedented access to some of Colombia's most notorious leaders of the death squads. He also conducted interviews with the victims of paramilitary, with drug kingpins, and with vocal public supporters of the paramilitary groups. Drawing on the work of Deleuze and Guattari, this riveting work demonstrates how the paramilitaries have in essence become a war machine deployed by the Colombian state to control and maintain its territory and political legitimacy. 606 $aDeath squads$zColombia 606 $aParamilitary forces$zColombia 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aDeath squads 615 0$aParamilitary forces 676 $a986.106/35 700 $aCivico$b Aldo$01053799 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910460549303321 996 $aThe Para-state$92485892 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01555nam 2200397 a 450 001 9910699225603321 005 20230902162110.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002401653 035 $a(OCoLC)493243980 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002401653 100 $a20091223d2008 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||a|||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aOnline virtual worlds$b[electronic resource] $eapplications and avatars in a user-generated medium : hearing before the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, House of Representatives, One Hundred Tenth Congress, second session, April 1, 2008 210 1$aWashington :$cU.S. G.P.O.,$d2008. 215 $a1 online resource (v, 82 pages) $cillustrations 300 $aTitle from title screen (viewed on Dec. 23, 2009). 300 $aPaper version available for sale by the Supt. of Docs., U.S. G.P.O. 300 $a"Serial no. 110-102." 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (page 56). 517 $aOnline virtual worlds 606 $aVirtual reality$xSocial aspects 606 $aSecond Life (Game)$xSocial aspects 606 $aAvatars (Virtual reality) 615 0$aVirtual reality$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aSecond Life (Game)$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aAvatars (Virtual reality) 801 0$bGPO 801 1$bGPO 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910699225603321 996 $aOnline virtual worlds$93548643 997 $aUNINA
