Both give accounts of how they worked in a range of interethnic enterprises from the 1920s to the 1960s in central Brazil. Prepori, a shaman, also gives an account of his relations with spirit beings that populate the Kawaiwete cosmos as he participated in these projects. The historical consciousness presented by these narrators centers on how transformations in social relations were experienced in bodily terms?how their bodies changed as new relationships formed. Amazonian Cosmopolitans offers Indigenous perspectives on twentieth-century Brazilian history as well as a way to reimagine lowland peoples as living within vast networks, bridging wide social and cosmological divides. 517 3 $aNavigating a shamanic cosmos, shifting indigenous policies, and other modern projects 606 $aKayabi Indians$vBiography 606 $aKayabi Indians$xSocial life and customs 606 $aKayabi Indians$xRites and ceremonies 606 $aShamans$zBrazil$vBiography 606 $aSocial sciences$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01122877 606 $aHumanities$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00963588 607 $aXingu River Valley (Brazil)$xSocial life and customs 607 $aParque Nacional do Xingu (Brazil)$xSocial life and customs 615 0$aKayabi Indians 615 0$aKayabi Indians$xSocial life and customs. 615 0$aKayabi Indians$xRites and ceremonies. 615 0$aShamans 615 7$aSocial sciences. 615 7$aHumanities. 676 $a305.89/98380811 700 $aOakdale$b Suzanne$01782459 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bNZ-WeVUL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910834301103321 996 $aAmazonian Cosmopolitans$94308666 997 $aUNINA 999 $a9781496241566
