The decision to place a family member in a nursing home is often extremely difficult, especially when the family belongs to a group with a strong tradition of filial responsibility. Despite these realities, little has been written about the stresses families of diverse cultural backgrounds experience in making this challenging decision. This book describes the experiences of seventy-five African American and Afro-Caribbean, white Jewish, and Latina/o residents and their relatives and friends who have been their caregivers. Integrating original qualitative research with quantitative data and theoretical perspectives and findings from other studies, Patricia Kolb not only presents new perspectives on how caregiving varies across racial and ethnic backgrounds but also dispels numerous stereotypes about nursing home placement among diverse groups. 606 $aOlder people$xNursing home care$zUnited States 606 $aMinority older people$xNursing home care$zUnited States 606 $aCaregivers 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aOlder people$xNursing home care 615 0$aMinority older people$xNursing home care 615 0$aCaregivers. 676 $a362.160973 700 $aKolb$b Patricia J.$01057383 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910464325703321 996 $aCaring for our elders$92492626 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01168nam a2200301 i 4500 001 991000722229707536 008 100507sfre fr b 000 0 eng d 020 $a9782251013664 035 $ab13901217-39ule_inst 040 $aDip.to Filologia Class. e Scienze Filosofiche$bita 041 $afre$alat$hlat 082 0 $a720 082 0 $a870.01 100 0 $aVitruvius Pollio$08237 240 10$aDe architectura$918291 245 10$aDe l'architecture :$blivre 5. /$cVitruve ; texte établi, traduit et commenté par Catherine Saliou 260 $aParis :$bLes Belles Lettres,$c2009 300 $aLXXVI, 434 p.
