Novel Beginnings departs from the traditional, narrow focus on the development of the realistic novel to emphasize the many kinds of experimentation that marked the genre in the eighteenth century before its conventions were firmly established in the nineteenth. Treating well-known works like Tom Jones and Tristram Shandy in conjunction with less familiar texts such as Sarah Fielding's The Cry (a kind of hybrid novel and play) and Jane Barker's A Patch-Work Screen for the Ladies (a novel of adventure replete with sentimental verse and numerous subnarratives), the book evokes the excitement of a multifaceted and unpredictable process of growth and change. Investigating fiction throughout the 1700's, Spacks delineates the individuality of specific texts while suggesting connections among novels. She sketches a wide range of forms and themes, including Providential narratives, psychological thrillers, romans à clef, sentimental parables, political allegories, Gothic romances, and many others. These multiple narrative experiments show the impossibility of thinking of eighteenth-century fiction simply as a precursor to the nineteenth-century novel, Spacks shows. Instead, the vast variety of engagements with the problems of creating fiction demonstrates that literary history-by no means inexorable-might have taken quite a different course. 410 0$aYale guides to English literature. 606 $aEnglish fiction$y18th century$xHistory and criticism 606 $aExperimental fiction, English$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLiterary form$xHistory$y18th century 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aEnglish fiction$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aExperimental fiction, English$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLiterary form$xHistory 676 $a823/.509 700 $aSpacks$b Patricia Ann Meyer$0458628 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910452204203321 996 $aNovel beginnings$92477342 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01074nam 2200361 450 001 9910683397103321 005 20230505195444.0 010 $a1-68571-073-5 035 $a(CKB)5690000000123297 035 $a(NjHacI)995690000000123297 035 $a(EXLCZ)995690000000123297 100 $a20230505d2023 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aAbout That Life $eBarry Lopez and the Art of Community /$fMatthew Cheney 210 1$a[Place of publication not identified] :$cpunctum books,$d2023. 210 4$d©2023 215 $a1 online resource (151 pages) 311 $a1-68571-072-7 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 606 $aCommunity development$zUnited States 615 0$aCommunity development 676 $a307.140973 700 $aCheney$b Matthew$01353672 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910683397103321 996 $aAbout That Life$93269806 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03542nam 2200493 450 001 9910495192803321 005 20220504101907.0 010 $a981-16-1807-0 024 7 $a10.1007/978-981-16-1807-9 035 $a(CKB)4100000011999324 035 $a(DE-He213)978-981-16-1807-9 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6705997 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6705997 035 $a(OCoLC)1264471284 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000011999324 100 $a20220504d2021 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn|008mamaa 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aHandbook on synthesis strategies for advanced materials$hVolume-I$iTechniques and fundamentals /$fA.K. Unconventional synthetic routes play an important role in the synthesis of advanced materials as many new materials are metastable and cannot be synthesized by conventional methods. This book presents various synthesis methods such as conventional solid-state method, combustion method, a range of soft chemical methods, template synthesis, molecular precursor method, microwave synthesis, sono-chemical method and high-pressure synthesis. It provides a comprehensive overview of synthesis methods and covers a variety of materials, including ceramics, films, glass, carbon-based, and metallic materials. Many techniques for processing and surface functionalization are also discussed. Several engineering aspects of materials synthesis are also included. The contents of this book are useful for researchers and professionals working in the areas of materials and chemistry. 410 0$aIndian Institute of Metals series. 606 $aSynthetic products 615 0$aSynthetic products. 676 $a668.42 702 $aTyagi$b A.
