Several pathogens are already pan-resistant, representing a major cause of mortality in patients suffering from nosocomial infections. Drug efflux pumps, which remove compounds from the bacterial cell, thereby lowering the antimicrobial concentration to sub-toxic levels, play a major role in multidrug resistance. In this Special Issue, we present up-to-date knowledge of the mechanism of RND efflux pumps, the identification and characterization of efflux pumps from emerging pathogens and their role in antimicrobial resistance, and progress made on the development of specific inhibitors. This collection of data could serve as a basis for antimicrobial drug discovery aimed at inhibiting drug efflux pumps to reverse resistance in some of the most resistant pathogens. 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 606 $aBiology, life sciences$2bicssc 606 $aMicrobiology (non-medical)$2bicssc 610 $aMdtF (YhiV) 610 $amultidrug resistance 610 $aRND-type efflux pump 610 $adye accumulation 610 $areal-time efflux 610 $apathogens 610 $aRND 610 $aevolution 610 $aefflux pump 610 $aadaptation 610 $aAliarcobacter butzleri 610 $aRND efflux pumps 610 $avirulence 610 $aresistance 610 $aRND pump 610 $adominant negative effect 610 $aassembly 610 $aprotein-protein interaction 610 $amutation 610 $adrug resistance 610 $acystic fibrosis 610 $aprevalence of efflux resistance mechanisms 610 $ahospital acquired infections 610 $aantibiotic resistance 610 $aallostery 610 $aantimicrobial resistance 610 $aconformational changes 610 $aenergetic transition 610 $agram-negative bacteria 610 $apump activation 615 7$aResearch & information: general 615 7$aBiology, life sciences 615 7$aMicrobiology (non-medical) 700 $aBroutin$b Isabelle$4edt$01339339 702 $aVargiu$b Attilio V$4edt 702 $aVenter$b Henrietta$4edt 702 $aPhan$b Gilles$4edt 702 $aBroutin$b Isabelle$4oth 702 $aVargiu$b Attilio V$4oth 702 $aVenter$b Henrietta$4oth 702 $aPhan$b Gilles$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910674013003321 996 $aThe Structural and Functional Study of Efflux Pumps Belonging to the RND Transporters Family from Gram-Negative Bacteria$93060056 997 $aUNINA
