The premise of this volume is that one needs to focus on the question 'What do Muslims do in terms of shari'a?' rather than 'What is shari'a?'. This perspective shows that the practice of Sharia is restricted to a limited set of rules that mainly relate to religious rituals, family law and social interaction. The framework of this volume then continues to explore two more interactions: the Western responses to these practices of shari'a and, in turn, the Muslim legal reaction to these responses. 410 0$aLaw, governance, and development.$pResearch & policy notes 606 $aDomestic relations (Islamic law)$zNon-Islamic countries 606 $aDomestic relations$zWestern countries 606 $aMuslims$xLegal status, laws, etc$zNon-Islamic countries 606 $aLAW / Islamic$2bisacsh 610 $aIslamic law, sharia, family law, Islam. 615 0$aDomestic relations (Islamic law) 615 0$aDomestic relations 615 0$aMuslims$xLegal status, laws, etc. 615 7$aLAW / Islamic. 676 $a340.115 702 $aAlwani$b Zainab$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aBerger$b Maria$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aBerger$b Maurits S.$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aFoblets$b Marie-Claire$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aFournier$b Pascale$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aHussain$b Jamila$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aLizzio$b Ayat$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aMoors$b Annelies$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aNielsen$b Jørgen S.$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aPossamai$b Adam$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aReyes$b Nathan$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aRichardson$b James T.$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aRohe$b Mathias$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aRutten$b Susan$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aSaeed$b Abdullah$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aSinani$b Besnik$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aTurner$b Bryan S.$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aYassari$b Nadjma$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 702 $aZiaka$b Angeliki$4ctb$4https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctb 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910671201403321 996 $aApplying Shari?a in the West$91956587 997 $aUNINA
