The focus is therefore on canonical knowledge, which changed fundamentally between 1000 and 1215: while ecclesiastical legal rules were stored linearly in collections of canons around 1000, they were linked to form complex legal knowledge in the 12th century. On the basis of a comprehensive evaluation of the handwritten tradition, the change in legal knowledge is analyzed using the papal primacy of jurisdiction and celibacy. In addition, the study shows the influence of such liberal and rhetoric in the ordering of church norms. The study thus provides a fascinating insight into the emergence of canon law and at the same time shows the diversity and complexity of legal knowledge in the High Middle Ages.Between 1000 and 1215, the knowledge of canon law changed fundamentally. Although ecclesiastic rules of law had been linearly collected by 1000, they had evolved into complex, highly interlinked carriers of knowledge by 1215. By carefully examining manuscript transmission, this book elucidates the evolution of legal knowledge, taking papal jurisdictional primacy and clerical celibacy as an illustrative example. Furthermore, it shows the influence theartes liberalesand rhetoric had on the organization of canon law. This study thus offers fascinating insights into the origins of canon law as an academic discipline, thereby also demonstrating the diversity and multi-layeredness of legal knowledge in the High Middle Ages. 330 $aFascinating insights into the origins of canon law as an academic discipline and legal knowledge in the High Middle Ages. 606 $aPopes$xPrimacy 606 $aCelibacy (Canon law) 606 $aCanon law$xHistory$yTo 1500 608 $aHistory. 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aPopes$xPrimacy. 615 0$aCelibacy (Canon law) 615 0$aCanon law$xHistory 676 $a262.13 700 $aDusil$b Stephan$01157277 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910817257403321 996 $aWissensordnungen des Rechts im Wandel$93977427 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03819nam 22007215 450 001 9910647397803321 005 20251229071632.0 010 $a3-031-17937-4 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-17937-2 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC7188513 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL7188513 035 $a(CKB)26076453500041 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-17937-2 035 $a(PPN)267811802 035 $a(EXLCZ)9926076453500041 100 $a20230130d2023 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aHigh Performance Computing in Science and Engineering '21 $eTransactions of the High Performance Computing Center, Stuttgart (HLRS) 2021 /$fedited by Wolfgang E.
