We have identified three themes across the articles: managing stress; support for effective parenting; and emphasis on fostering competence for an uncertain future. First, although the studies did not use data to test for differences between cohorts of parents, the results suggested that stress is a normal state for parents today, and especially for certain groups of parents. Second, despite high stress among parents, the articles point at some important support systems for parents in the 21st century. For example, although technology can be a stressor, it can also be a useful tool to enhance the parent-child relationship for parents of adolescents or young adults. Finally, in the third theme, we saw an emphasis on promoting a mix of competencies emphasizing both autonomy and relatedness in children and speculate that parents see these competences as tools to help the child to deal with an uncertain future.Results from this Special Issue illustrate the impact of societal changes on parenting. The findings can be used to develop programs and policies to provide support to diverse parents in handling today's stressors, ranging from technology to racism to excessive pressures for parental "success". They also point to important research gaps in understanding the task of parenting in the 21st century. 606 $aHumanities$2bicssc 606 $aSocial interaction$2bicssc 610 $a21st century 610 $aadolescence 610 $aadolescents 610 $aadversity 610 $aAQS 610 $aattachment behavior 610 $aattachment security 610 $aauthoritarian 610 $aauthoritative 610 $aautism spectrum disorder 610 $aautonomy 610 $abidirectional effects 610 $aburnout 610 $achild care books 610 $achildren's agency 610 $acollectivism 610 $acommunication 610 $acompetency 610 $aCOVID-19 610 $acritical consciousness 610 $aculturally responsive approaches 610 $aculture 610 $aearly childhood 610 $aemerging adulthood 610 $afamily diversity 610 $afamily support 610 $afather attachment 610 $aHispanic 610 $ahistorical perspective 610 $ahistorical trends 610 $aindividualism 610 $ainfant care 610 $aintensification of parenting 610 $ainteractions 610 $ainternalising 610 $ainternational 610 $ainvolvement 610 $alate childhood 610 $alatent profile analysis 610 $aLatino families 610 $aLatino/a/x 610 $alone mothers 610 $amental health 610 $amiddle childhood 610 $amindful parenting 610 $amindfulness 610 $amobile phones 610 $amother attachment 610 $amothers/mother-child relations 610 $an/a 610 $aneeds 610 $anon-resident fathers 610 $anoncompliance 610 $aparent-child interactions 610 $aparent-child relationship 610 $aparent-child relationships 610 $aparental control 610 $aparental support 610 $aparenting 610 $aparenting advice 610 $aparenting attitudes 610 $aparenting practices 610 $apermissiveness 610 $aPositive Youth Development 610 $apoverty 610 $aprotection 610 $apsychological control 610 $aracial-ethnic socialization 610 $aresiliency 610 $aresistance 610 $asmartphone 610 $asocial change 610 $asocial relational theory 610 $asocialization 610 $asocioeconomic background 610 $atechnoference 610 $atechnology 610 $ateenage attitude 610 $atext messaging 615 7$aHumanities 615 7$aSocial interaction 700 $aBuchanan$b Christy$4edt$01323179 702 $aGlatz$b Terese$4edt 702 $aBuchanan$b Christy$4oth 702 $aGlatz$b Terese$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910637792803321 996 $aParenting in the 21st Century$93035412 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01021nam0 22002771i 450 001 UON00280782 005 20231205103836.319 010 $a88-901276-0-0 100 $a20060928d2004 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| ||||| 200 1 $aˆIl ‰guappo nella storia, nell'arte, nel costume$fMonica Florio 210 $aNapoli$cKairos$d2004 215 $a81 p.$d22 cm. 606 $aCAMORRA$xStudi$3UONC035747$2FI 606 $aNapoli$xStoria sociale$xSec. 19.-20.$3UONC038032$2FI 620 $aIT$dNapoli$3UONL000012 700 1$aFLORIO$bMonica$3UONV164337$0692686 712 $aKairos$3UONV269119$4650 801 $aIT$bSOL$c20251010$gRICA 899 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$2UONSI 912 $aUON00280782 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI SMARRITO SMARRITO $eSI SC 42038 6 SMARRITO $sSmarrito 996 $aGuappo nella storia, nell'arte, nel costume$91247010 997 $aUNIOR
