"Her Laugh an Ace": Narrative Tricksterism in Louise Erdrich's Tetralogy. 330 $aBy analyzing the works of Thomas, Marlatt, and Erdrich through the lenses of subjectivity, gender studies, and narratology, Caroline Rosenthal brings to light new perspectives on their writings. Although all three authors write metafictions that challenge literary realism and dominant views of gender, the forms of their counter-narratives vary. In her novel 'Intertidal Life', Thomas traces the disintegration of an identity through narrative devices that unearth ruptures and contradictions in stories of gender. In contrast, Marlatt, in 'Ana Historic', challenges the regulatory fiction of heterosexuality. She offers her protagonist a way out into a new order that breaks with the law of the father, creating a 'monstrous' text that explores the possibilities of a lesbian identity. In her tetralogy of novels made up of 'Love Medicine, Tracks, The Beet Queen', and 'The Bingo Palace,' Erdrich resists definite readings of femininity altogether. By drawing on trickster narratives, she creates an open system of gendered identities that is dynamic and unfinalizable, positing the most fragmented worldview as the most enduring. By applying gender and narrative theory to nuanced analysis of the texts, Rosenthal's study elucidates the correlation between gender identity formation and narrative. Caroline Rosenthal is assistant professor of American Studies at the University of Constance, Germany. 410 0$aEuropean studies in American literature and culture. 517 3 $aNarrative Deconstructions of Gender in Works by Audrey Thomas, Daphne Marlatt, & Louise Erdrich 606 $aCanadian fiction$xWomen authors$xHistory and criticism 606 $aCanadian fiction$y20th century$xHistory and criticism 606 $aWomen and literature$zCanada$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aWomen and literature$zUnited States$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aNarration (Rhetoric)$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aSex role in literature 606 $aDeconstruction 607 $aNorth America$xIntellectual life$y20th century 615 0$aCanadian fiction$xWomen authors$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aCanadian fiction$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aWomen and literature$xHistory 615 0$aWomen and literature$xHistory 615 0$aNarration (Rhetoric)$xHistory 615 0$aSex role in literature. 615 0$aDeconstruction. 676 $a813/.54099287 686 $aHQ 4067$qBSZ$2rvk 700 $aRosenthal$b Caroline$f1969-$01826225 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911008470203321 996 $aNarrative deconstructions of gender in works by Audrey Thomas, Daphne Marlatt, and Louise Erdrich$94394193 997 $aUNINA LEADER 07474nam 22007695 450 001 9910637731403321 005 20251009073438.0 010 $a981-19-6802-0 024 7 $a10.1007/978-981-19-6802-0 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC7165818 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL7165818 035 $a(CKB)25913952400041 035 $a(DE-He213)978-981-19-6802-0 035 $a(PPN)267814577 035 $a(EXLCZ)9925913952400041 100 $a20221229d2023 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aScience, Technology and Innovation Diplomacy in Developing Countries $ePerceptions and Practice /$fedited by Venugopalan Ittekkot, Jasmeet Kaur Baweja 205 $a1st ed. 2023. 210 1$aSingapore :$cSpringer Nature Singapore :$cImprint: Springer,$d2023. 215 $a1 online resource (360 pages) 225 1 $aResearch for Development,$x2198-7319 311 08$aPrint version: Ittekkot, Venugopalan Science, Technology and Innovation Diplomacy in Developing Countries Singapore : Springer,c2023 9789811968013 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 327 $aChapter 1 - STI Diplomacy in Developing Countries: Current Issues and Challenges (Amitava Bandopadhyay) -- Part 1: - Concepts, Global Initiatives and Opportunities -- Chapter 2 - Internationalization of Science Diplomacy: Concepts, Practices, Lessons for Developing Countries (Carlos Aguirre-Bastos) -- Chapter 3 - International Science, Technology and Innovation Diplomacy: Global Initiatives (Madhusudan Bandyopadhyay) -- Chapter 4 - Science, Technology and Innovation Diplomacy; Opportunities and Challenges at the Time of COVID-19 for Developing Countries (Hossein Ahmadi, Ali Morteza Birang, Fatemeh Azadi) -- Part 2: State of STI Diplomacy in Developing Countries -- Chapter 5 - Recent Developments in STI Diplomacy in the Republic of Mauritius (Madhvee Madhou) -- Chapter 6 - Science, Technology and Innovation Diplomacy in the Arab Region with Emphasis on the State of Palestine (Maysoun Ibrahim) -- Chapter 7 - Present Status of Science Diplomacy in Nepal(Chiranjivi Regmi) -- Part 3: Role of S&T Status on STI Diplomacy -- Chapter 8 - Development Paradigm of India as an Enabler for Practicing Science, Technology and Innovation Diplomacy (Madhusudan Bandyopadhyay) -- Chapter 9 - Science, Technology and Innovation (STI): Its Role in South Africa?s Development Outcomes and STI Diplomacy (Juanita van Heerden and Misheck Mulumba) -- Chapter 10 - Strengthening Science Diplomacy for Sustainable Development of Nepal (Sunil Babu Shrestha) -- Chapter 11 - Assessing the Current State of Science, Technology and Innovation in Mauritius for Improving Economic Growth and Development (Randhir Roopchund).-Chapter 12 - Responsibilities of the Governments of Developing Countries in Building up South-South STI Diplomacy (Chandima Gomes) -- Part 4 - Role of STID in Strengthening S&T Base -- Chapter 13 - Role of India in South-South Cooperation to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (Jyoti Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar Varshney) -- Chapter 14 - In Search for Scientific Collaboration: South Africa?s Science Diplomacy towards Africa (Thokozani Simelane, Rodney Managa, Shingirirai Mutanga, Nicassius Achu Check) -- Chapter 15 - Case Studies in International Science Diplomacy: ASRT Contribution to Developing S&T in Egypt (Sameh H.
