Now that survey questionnaires are able to record individual trajectories in greater depth, changes of status can no longer be viewed simply as separate events, but involve a transition process of variable duration. The observation, modelling and interpretation of these fuzzy thresholds between two situations constitute a dynamic field of research in the social sciences. The authors of this manual have pooled their experience of event-history data collection to address the questions of ?focus?, i.e. finding the right observation distance to grasp the complexity of life histories, and of time, i.e. choosing the right timescale of detailed information collection. After analysing the links between quantitative and qualitative data, addressing the distinction between facts and perceptions, and deconstructing analysis data categories, they offer a number of conceptual and methodological solutions. This study extends beyond the scope of specific examples to develop a major empirical approach in a still largely unexplored area. This book targets a much broader audience than the community of demographers alone. It concerns everyone in the field of social sciences who, at one moment or another, is required to organize data collection in the field, either for research or practical purposes. The Groupe de réflexion sur l?approche biographique (GRAB) brings together researchers and academics from a range of institutions (INED, IRD, CNRS, etc.) working in a variety of disciplines: demography, geography, sociology, economics, etc. It is building on the experience acquired through 25 event-history surveys conducted to date in France, Africa and Latin America. 606 $aDemography 606 $aevent history analysis 606 $amethodology 606 $atemporality 606 $alife course 610 $aevent history analysis 610 $amethodology 610 $atemporality 610 $alife course 615 4$aDemography 615 4$aevent history analysis 615 4$amethodology 615 4$atemporality 615 4$alife course 700 $aGRAB$01331352 701 $aAdjamagbo$b Agnès$01284561 701 $aAmétépé$b Fofo$01290098 701 $aAntoine$b Philippe$0387663 701 $aBajos$b Nathalie$01290099 701 $aBeauchemin$b Cris$01290100 701 $aBéguy$b Donatien$01290101 701 $aBinetou Dial$b Fatou$01331353 701 $aBonvalet$b Catherine$01225513 701 $aBozon$b Michel$0152128 701 $aBrou$b Hermann$01290103 701 $aCalvès$b Anne E$01331354 701 $aCoubès$b Marie-Laure$01290106 701 $aDelaunay$b Daniel$0661137 701 $aDesgrées du Loû$b Annabel$01331355 701 $aDiagne$b Alioune$01290108 701 $aDureau$b Françoise$0435398 701 $aFerrand$b Michèle$01290109 701 $aGolaz$b Valérie$01290110 701 $aKuépié$b Mathias$01290111 701 $aLelièvre$b Éva$0414056 701 $aRoubaud$b François$0280985 701 $aTichit$b Christine$01290112 701 $aTijou-Traore$b Annick$01290113 701 $aVivier$b Géraldine$01290114 801 0$bFR-FrMaCLE 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910634090903321 996 $aFuzzy States and Complex Trajectories$93040293 997 $aUNINA
