This book examines the trials themselves, including interactions with soldiers and defense teams, documents pertaining to the courts-martials, US government reports and photographs from Abu Ghraib, in order to challenge the view that the abuses were carried out at the hands of a few rogue soldiers. With a keen focus on gender and sexuality as prominent aspects of the abuses themselves, as well as the ways in which they were portrayed and tried, Fallgirls engages with modern feminist thought and contemporary social theory in order to analyse the manner in which the abuses were framed, whilst also exploring the various lived realities of Abu Ghraib by both prisoners and soldiers alike. 410 0$aClassical and contemporary social theory. 606 $aWomen in war 606 $aControl (Psychology) 606 $aWomen and war$zUnited States 606 $aTorture$zIraq 606 $aIraq War, 2003-2011$xPsychological aspects 606 $aPrisoners of war$xAbuse of$zIraq 606 $aFeminist theory 610 $aSociology 610 $aAbu Ghraib 610 $aGendering 610 $aGender 610 $aCultural theory 610 $aFeminist philosophy 610 $aUS-led torture 610 $aWar on Terror 610 $aSocial theory 610 $aLynndie England 610 $aSabrina Harman 610 $aRogue soldiers 610 $aAbuses 610 $aPrisoners 610 $aMiddle East Politics 615 0$aWomen in war. 615 0$aControl (Psychology) 615 0$aWomen and war 615 0$aTorture 615 0$aIraq War, 2003-2011$xPsychological aspects. 615 0$aPrisoners of war$xAbuse of 615 0$aFeminist theory. 676 $a956.7044/37 700 $aCaldwell$b Ryan Ashley$4aut$01271545 801 0$bOCoLC-P 801 1$bOCoLC-P 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910633949603321 996 $aFallgirls$92995325 997 $aUNINA
