Using "information wanted" notices that appeared in colonial newspapers as well as emigrants' own accounts, Errington illustrates that emigration was a family affair. Individuals made their decisions within a matrix of kin and community - their experiences shaped by their identities as husbands and wives, parents and children, siblings and cousins. The Atlantic crossing divided families, but it was also the means of reuniting kin and rebuilding old communities. Emigration created its own unique world - a world whose inhabitants remained well aware of the transatlantic community that provided them with a continuing sense of identity, home, and family. 410 0$aMcGill-Queen's studies in ethnic history.$nSeries two ;$v24. 606 $aBritish$xKinship$zOntario$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aImmigrants$xFamily relationships$zOntario$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aFamilies$zOntario$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aImmigrants$zOntario$vBiography 607 $aOntario$xEmigration and immigration$xHistory$y19th century 607 $aGreat Britain$xEmigration and immigration$xHistory$y19th century 615 0$aBritish$xKinship$xHistory 615 0$aImmigrants$xFamily relationships$xHistory 615 0$aFamilies$xHistory 615 0$aImmigrants 676 $a306.85086/9120941 700 $aErrington$b Elizabeth Jane$f1951-$0995795 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910807058903321 996 $aEmigrant worlds and transatlantic communities$94044726 997 $aUNINA
