Weeping reflects helplessness and being overwhelmed with emotion, and tears can motivate others to help. Similarly, people turn to prayer at times of extreme distress; therefore, weeping and prayer reinforce one another as strategies to move the deity to offer assistance. Bosworth finds that prayers that mention weeping also indicate that the deity is angry, so tears are a means of calming divine wrath. The book includes comparisons of Hebrew Psalms and Akkadian prayers with reference to modern scientific research on weeping. 410 0$aAncient Near East monographs ;$vv. 24. 606 $aHymns, Akkadian 606 $aPrayer$xJudaism 606 $aCrying$xReligious aspects$xJudaism 606 $aCrying$xReligious aspects 606 $aAkkadian language 606 $aHebrew language 606 $aAkkadians$xReligion 606 $aAkkadian language$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00803982 606 $aAkkadians$xReligion$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00804000 606 $aCrying$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00884474 606 $aGods$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00944223 606 $aHebrew language$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00954191 606 $aJudaism$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00984280 606 $aReligion$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01093763 610 0$aPrayers and devotion. 615 0$aHymns, Akkadian. 615 0$aPrayer$xJudaism. 615 0$aCrying$xReligious aspects$xJudaism. 615 0$aCrying$xReligious aspects. 615 0$aAkkadian language. 615 0$aHebrew language. 615 0$aAkkadians$xReligion. 615 7$aAkkadian language. 615 7$aAkkadians$xReligion. 615 7$aCrying. 615 7$aGods. 615 7$aHebrew language. 615 7$aJudaism. 615 7$aReligion. 676 $a299.21 700 $aBosworth$b David Alan$f1972-$01252861 801 0$bINA 801 1$bINA 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 912 $a9910586601003321 996 $aHouse of weeping$92904639 997 $aUNINA
