Using Tensor Products to Apply Wavelets to Images -- A Basic Linear Algebra. 330 $aThis book offers a user friendly, hands-on, and systematic introduction to applied and computational harmonic analysis: to Fourier analysis, signal processing and wavelets; and to their interplay and applications. The approach is novel, and the book can be used in undergraduate courses, for example, following a first course in linear algebra, but is also suitable for use in graduate level courses. The book will benefit anyone with a basic background in linear algebra. It defines fundamental concepts in signal processing and wavelet theory, assuming only a familiarity with elementary linear algebra. No background in signal processing is needed. Additionally, the book demonstrates in detail why linear algebra is often the best way to go. Those with only a signal processing background are also introduced to the world of linear algebra, although a full course is recommended. The book comes in two versions: one based on MATLAB, and one on Python, demonstrating the feasibility and applications of both approaches. Most of the code is available interactively. The applications mainly involve sound and images. The book also includes a rich set of exercises, many of which are of a computational nature. 410 0$aSpringer Undergraduate Texts in Mathematics and Technology,$x1867-5514 606 $aAlgebras, Linear 606 $aMathematics$xData processing 606 $aEngineering mathematics 606 $aEngineering$xData processing 606 $aSignal processing 606 $aFourier analysis 606 $aLinear Algebra 606 $aComputational Science and Engineering 606 $aMathematical and Computational Engineering Applications 606 $aSignal, Speech and Image Processing 606 $aFourier Analysis 615 0$aAlgebras, Linear. 615 0$aMathematics$xData processing. 615 0$aEngineering mathematics. 615 0$aEngineering$xData processing. 615 0$aSignal processing. 615 0$aFourier analysis. 615 14$aLinear Algebra. 615 24$aComputational Science and Engineering. 615 24$aMathematical and Computational Engineering Applications. 615 24$aSignal, Speech and Image Processing. 615 24$aFourier Analysis. 676 $a512.5 700 $aRyan$b Øyvind$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0781364 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910338253503321 996 $aLinear Algebra, Signal Processing, and Wavelets - A Unified Approach$91732543 997 $aUNINA LEADER 06266nam 22006735 450 001 9910586589003321 005 20251113205406.0 010 $a9783031040177 010 $a3031040171 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-04017-7 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC7070978 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL7070978 035 $a(CKB)24360651100041 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-04017-7 035 $a(EXLCZ)9924360651100041 100 $a20220808d2022 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aAlcohol, Age, Generation and the Life Course /$fedited by Thomas Thurnell-Read, Laura Fenton 205 $a1st ed. 2022. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Palgrave Macmillan,$d2022. 215 $a1 online resource (360 pages) 225 1 $aLeisure Studies in a Global Era,$x2946-3181 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $a Introduction: Alcohol, Age, Generation and the Life Course., Thomas Thurnell-Read and Laura Fenton -- Part I: Alcohol, Generations and Social Change -- From Abiding to Accelerating to Anomic: Generational Waves of Change in Irish Drinking Culture, 1845-Present, John O?Brien -- Realities or Mythologies: England?s rural pubs and the life course, Claire Markham -- Biographical and Generational Perspectives on Drinking in a Mediterranean Culture, Franca Beccaria -- ?I Would Never Dream of Drinking on a Lunch Hour, But??: Intergenerational changes in attitude towards alcohol consumption, Lyn Brierley-Jones and Jonathan Ling -- Part II: Alcohol, Youth and Adolescence -- Alcohol Use, Age, and (In)Appropriateness: Young adults? conceptions and performances of ?age? in contexts of alcohol use, Maria Dich Herold and Vibeke AsmussenFrank -- If You Can?t Beat Them, You Join Them?: Peer pressure and drinking to belong among Nigerian youths, Emeka Dumbili, Shifting Conceptions of Moderation, Risk and Danger amongst Non-Drinking University Students in the UK: A Case Study of Hyper-Moderation, Henry Yeomans, Adam Burgess and Laura Fenton -- Part III: Alcohol in Adulthood -- Blackening the Bride and Stripping the Stag: The Role of alcohol, gender and age in prenuptial wedding rituals, Thomas Thurnell-Read and Shelia Young -- Female Drunkenness and the Life Course in Victorian Lancashire, Craig Stafford -- De-Gendering Alcohol through Food Pairing: Women?s Shifting Position as Culinary Consumers in Japan, Swee-Lin Ho -- ?There?s nothing classy about a drunk 40-year-old?: Drinking biographies and ?sobriety stories? amongst women who stop drinking in midlife and beyond, Emily Nicolls -- Part IV: Alcohol in Later Life -- Alcohol Use, Its Meaning and Impact in Older Age, Beth Bareham and Jennifer Seddon -- Alcohol Consumption in Older Drinkers and Its Links to ?Successful Ageing?, John Foster and Betsy Thom -- ?I Don?t Drink Much Now ?cos I?m Old?: The Life-course and changing drinking practices among older male adults in Nigeria, Ediomo-Ubong Nelson. 330 $a"This fascinating collection examines relationships between alcohol, age and generation and illustrates how people across the life course actively construct their identities through drinking narratives (or sobriety stories), and how attitudes to drinking mirror changing power relationships over time and space. Importantly, this book challenges the notion that there is a simple, linear relationship between age and drinking." - Carol Emslie, Glasgow Caledonian University, UK This volume explores generational differences in alcohol consumption practices and examines the changing role of alcohol across the life course. It considers generational patterns in where, how and why people buy and consume alcohol and how these may interact with identity and belonging and considers how drinking alcohol in adolescence, adulthood, middle-age or later life takes on different functions, meanings and tensions. Alcohol is shown to play an important role in biographical transitions, such as in the coming of age rituals that mark the passage from adolescences to adulthood, whilst drinking alcohol in adulthood and in later life takes on new meanings, pleasures and risks in light of shifting roles and responsibilities relating to work, leisure and the family. The empirically-informed contributions draw on a range of diverse disciplinary backgrounds and a range of cultural contexts provides a nuanced examination of the role of alcohol at different life course stages and explores both continuity and change between generations. Thomas Thurnell-Read is Senior Lecturer in Sociology in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at Loughborough University, UK. His research on drinking culture has been published in leading international journals and he is a regular contributor to national and international media debates relating to pub culture, alcohol and drunkenness. Laura Fenton is a Research Associate in the School of Health and Related Research at the University of Sheffield and in the School of Environment, Education and Development at the University of Manchester, UK. Her areas of expertise include alcohol, youth, gender, the life course, and biographical methods. 410 0$aLeisure Studies in a Global Era,$x2946-3181 606 $aSociology 606 $aLeisure 606 $aLife cycle, Human 606 $aSocial groups 606 $aPublic health 606 $aLeisure Studies 606 $aLife Course 606 $aSociology of Family, Youth and Aging 606 $aPublic Health 615 0$aSociology. 615 0$aLeisure. 615 0$aLife cycle, Human. 615 0$aSocial groups. 615 0$aPublic health. 615 14$aLeisure Studies. 615 24$aLife Course. 615 24$aSociology of Family, Youth and Aging. 615 24$aPublic Health. 676 $a658 676 $a362.292 702 $aThurnell-Read$b Thomas 702 $aFenton$b Laura 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910586589003321 996 $aAlcohol, age, generation and the life course$93362895 997 $aUNINA
