It explores how and why the challenge of changing our economies are variously ascribed to a lack of finance, a lack of technology, a lack of policy and a lack of public engagement, and shows how the realities constraining change are more fundamentally tied to the inertia of our existing high carbon society and limited visions for what a future low carbon world might become. Through showcasing the first seeds of innovation seeking to enable transformative change, Decarbonising Economies will also chart a course for future research and policy action towards our climate goals. The Society is a relatively late addition to a series of German societies of science and medicine that began with the "Deutsche Gesellschaft fu?r Geschichte der Medizin und der Naturwissenschaften", founded in 1910 by Leipzig University's Karl Sudhoff (1853-1938), who wrote: "We want to establish a 'German' society in order to gather German-speaking historians together in our special disciplines so that they form the core of an international society ...". Yet Sudhoff, at this time of burgeoning academic internationalism, was "quite willing" to accommodate the wishes of a number of founding members and "drop the word German in the title of the Society and have it merge with an international society". The founding and naming of the Society at that time derived from a speci? c set of historical circumstances, and the same was true some 80 years later when in 1991, in the wake of German reuni?cation, the "Deutsche Gesellschaft fu?r Geschichte und Theorie der Biologie" was founded. From the start, the Society has been committed to bringing studies in the history and philosophy of biology to a wide audience, using for this purpose its Jahrbuch fu?r Geschichte und Theorie der Biologie. Parallel to the Jahrbuch, the Verhandlungen zur Geschichte und Theorie der Biologie has become the by now traditional medium for the publication of papers delivered at the Society's annual meetings. In 2005 the Jahrbuch was renamed Annals of the History and Philosophy of Biology, re? ecting the Society's internationalist aspirations in addressing comparative biology as a subject of historical and philosophical studies. 606 $aGerman wit and humor 615 0$aGerman wit and humor. 676 $a834.914 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910724387503321 996 $aAnnals of the History and Philosophy of Biology 21$92173451 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01001nam--2200373---450- 001 990003636580203316 005 20120309113745.0 010 $a0-86292-001-9 035 $a000363658 035 $aUSA01000363658 035 $a(ALEPH)000363658USA01 035 $a000363658 100 $a20120309d2003----km-y0itay50------ba 101 $aeng$agrc 102 $aGB 105 $a||||||||001yy 200 1 $aPeace$fAristophanes$gedited with introduction and commentary by Maurice Platnauer 210 $aLondon$cBristol Classical press$d2003 215 $aXXVI,174 p.$d21 cm 410 0$12001 454 1$12001 461 1$1001-------$12001 606 0 $aCommedia greca$2BNCF 676 $a882.01 700 1$aARISTOPHANES$0160835 702 1$aPLATNAUER,$bMaurice 801 0$aIT$bsalbc$gISBD 912 $a990003636580203316 951 $aFG 26,34$b9035 DSA 959 $aBK 969 $aDSA 979 $aDSA$b90$c20120309$lUSA01$h1137 996 $aEir?n?$926731 997 $aUNISA
