It involves the collaboration and orchestration of contributions from the first and second heart fields as well as the neural crest. The precursor cells differentiate into endocardial cushions and putative cardiac valves, the myocardium, and epicardium of the heart, but also into the different layers of the main arterial vessels. These include not only the aorta and the pulmonary trunk but also the pulmonary and coronary arteries, and during development, the arterial duct. Many transcriptional and signaling networks act in timely concert to acquire the proper asymmetric development and function and pressure and flow dynamics. This is not only a human or even mammalian 'enterprise,' but is also taking place in so-called ancestral forms from fish to reptiles, including birds. In humans, it is small wonder that many clinical syndromes may arise when something in this complexity is amiss. This Special Issue of JCDD contains contributions focussed on the heart fields, congenital cardiac malformations and associated syndromes, with special emphasis on the cardiac outflow tract. The Issue is devoted to Prof. Dr. Adriana Gittenberger-de Groot, who dedicated her extensive career to research on cardiovascular development. 517 $aLeaders in Cardiovascular Research 606 $aPublic health and preventive medicine$2bicssc 610 $aacute aortic syndrome 610 $aanomalous left subclavian artery 610 $aaorta 610 $aaortic regurgitation 610 $aaortic stenosis 610 $aaortic surgery 610 $aaortic valve replacement 610 $aaortic wall 610 $aarrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia 610 $aarteria lusoria 610 $aarterial duct 610 $aarterial switch operation 610 $aasymptomatic 610 $aatrioventricular valve 610 $aBentall 610 $abicuspid aortic valve 610 $acandidate genes 610 $acardiac development 610 $acardiac fields 610 $acardiac progenitor cells 610 $acardiomyocyte 610 $acardiovascular development 610 $acardiovascular disease 610 $acardiovascular pathogenesis 610 $acartilage 610 $acell identity 610 $acell polarity 610 $acleft palate 610 $acompact myocardium 610 $acongenital heart defects 610 $acongenital heart disease 610 $acoronary arteries 610 $acoronary artery 610 $acoronary artery anatomy 610 $acoronary complications 610 $acushion 610 $adevelopmental biology 610 $adiscordant phenotype 610 $adissection of ductus arteriosus 610 $aDNA methylation 610 $aductus arteriosus 610 $aearly surgery 610 $aendocardial cushions 610 $aendocardial fibro-elastosis 610 $aendocardium 610 $aepicardium 610 $aepigenetics 610 $aesophageal compression 610 $afetal aortic stenosis 610 $aforamen of Panizza 610 $afree edge folding 610 $agenetics 610 $aheart tube 610 $ahomograft 610 $aimaging 610 $aKommerell's diverticulum 610 $alateral cushion 610 $aleft aorta 610 $aLeiden Convention coronary coding system 610 $alineage tracing 610 $aLipton classification 610 $aloeys dietz syndrome-5 610 $amajor cushion 610 $amonozygotic twins 610 $amyofibroblasts 610 $amyxomatous degeneration 610 $aneointima 610 $aneural crest 610 $aneural crest cell 610 $aoriginal leaflet 610 $aoutflow tract 610 $aoutflow tract septation 610 $apharyngeal arch arteries 610 $apharyngeal arch artery 610 $apharyngeal ectoderm 610 $apostmortem histology 610 $aprenatal ultrasound 610 $aprogenitor specification 610 $aproliferation 610 $apulmonary trunk 610 $aRac1 610 $aremodeling 610 $arienhoff syndrome 610 $aright aorta 610 $aright sided aortic arch 610 $asecond heart field 610 $asemilunar valves 610 $asignaling networks 610 $asingle coronary artery 610 $aspeckle tracking analysis 610 $asudden unexpected intrauterine death 610 $asuperimposed tissue 610 $asurgical 610 $aTetralogy of Fallot 610 $atrabeculation 610 $atracheal compression 610 $atranscription factor AP-2? 610 $atranscriptome 610 $atransforming growth factor beta-3 610 $atransposition great arteries coronary anatomy 610 $atransposition of the great arteries 610 $atunica media 610 $avalve 610 $avariations 610 $awatchful waiting 615 7$aPublic health and preventive medicine 700 $aJongbloed$b Monique$4edt$01329049 702 $aPoelmann$b Robert$4edt 702 $aJongbloed$b Monique$4oth 702 $aPoelmann$b Robert$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910585946203321 996 $aLeaders in Cardiovascular Research: A Special Issue Dedicated to Professor Adriana Gittenberger-De Groot$93039270 997 $aUNINA
