By the turn of the century that was no longer true. In fact, Mexican Americans in Texas had effectively reached parity with their white counterparts in elected office. This book tells the story of this dramatic transition in Texas politics and seeks to explain it utilizing original archival research, hours of interviews with leading figures, and the collected letters of some of Texas' most important politicians and activists. The departure from a racially uniform political class in Texas to incorporate Mexican Americans was slow and difficult. Mexican Americans rarely won easy victories and the concessions they received were often yielded with reluctance. Threatened with racial tension, minority status and political exclusion, it is perhaps surprising that Mexican Americans were so successfully incorporated. I argue that their incorporation was the culmination of six interrelated political processes: the long history of political organization among Mexican Americans in Texas that had established an effective corps of leaders, an increasing proportion of the voting-age population, new Democratic Party policies developed to increase the representation of women and minorities, a reinvigorated Republican Party that absorbed conservative voters and weakened resistance to racial reform in the Democratic Party, the civil rights legislation of the 1960s, and finally, an alliance with Anglo liberals that facilitated the transition to a more representative two-party system in Texas"--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aJack and Doris Smothers Series in Texas History, Life, and Culture 606 $aMexican Americans$zTexas$xPolitics and government 607 $aTexas$xPolitics and government$y1951- 615 0$aMexican Americans$xPolitics and government. 676 $a976.4/063 686 $aPOL020000$aSOC044000$2bisacsh 700 $aMarquez$b Benjamin$f1953-$01520429 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788923503321 996 $aDemocratizing Texas politics$93804664 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03531nam 2200937z- 450 001 9910585937803321 005 20220812 035 $a(CKB)5600000000483104 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91144 035 $a(oapen)doab91144 035 $a(EXLCZ)995600000000483104 100 $a20202208d2022 |y 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn|---annan 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aCurrent and Evolving Practices in the Quality Control of Cosmetics 210 $aBasel$cMDPI - Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute$d2022 215 $a1 online resource (86 p.) 311 08$a3-0365-2486-X 311 08$a3-0365-2487-8 330 $aCosmetic products undergo nowadays rigorous Quality Control testing to ensure that they are safe and stable and that their claims are substantiated by scientifically robust data. Quality Control tests used in the pharmaceutical industry can be applicable also for cosmetic formulations. However, claim substantiation testing is unique to cosmetic products. To enable time- and cost-effective quality control testing, assessment methodologies constantly keep evolving. This Special Issue includes manuscripts that explore all stages of Quality Control testing for cosmetic products, i.e., (1) physicochemical stability testing; (2) microbial stability testing; (3) efficacy testing including objective/subjective claim substantiation testing and the evaluation of sensorial properties; (4) toxicological/safety testing with emphasis on current and evolving methodologies that replace animal testing. 606 $aChemistry$2bicssc 606 $aPhysical chemistry$2bicssc 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 610 $aaccelerated ageing 610 $aactive compounds 610 $aassay 610 $abotanicals 610 $acollagen type I 610 $acolorants 610 $acosmeceutics 610 $acosmetic product safety 610 $acosmetics 610 $acreams 610 $acritical wavelength 610 $adermal absorption 610 $adirect to consumer 610 $aendocrine disruptors 610 $afunctional cosmetics 610 $agenotoxicity 610 $aHPLC-UV 610 $alabelling 610 $aminimally disruptive formulas 610 $an/a 610 $anon-animal-testing methodologies 610 $anon-melanoma skin cancers 610 $apermanent makeup 610 $aphotoaging 610 $apigments 610 $aPMU 610 $arefractive index 610 $aretail model 610 $aretinoids 610 $asafety 610 $asensory testing 610 $ashelf life 610 $askin hydration 610 $askin irritation 610 $askin sensitization 610 $asolar elastosis 610 $asolar radiation 610 $astability protocol 610 $astability testing 610 $atattoos 610 $atocopherol 610 $atoxicology 610 $aTTC 610 $aturbidity 610 $aubiquinone 610 $a? carotene 615 7$aChemistry 615 7$aPhysical chemistry 615 7$aResearch & information: general 700 $aDodou$b Kalliopi$4edt$01313407 702 $aDodou$b Kalliopi$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910585937803321 996 $aCurrent and Evolving Practices in the Quality Control of Cosmetics$93031394 997 $aUNINA
