This phenomenon is widely experienced in many of the former communist countries since the political transformation. The author argues that differences in media freedom and in the politicization of the news media are rooted in differences in party structures between old and new democracies, and, notably, the fact that young parties in the new members of the European Union are short of resources, which makes them more likely to take control of and to exploit media resources. 606 $aJournalism$zEurope, Eastern 606 $aJournalism$zEurope, Central 606 $aFreedom of the press$zEurope, Eastern 606 $aFreedom of the press$zEurope, Central 606 $aCommunication in politics$zEurope, Eastern 606 $aCommunication in politics$zEurope, Central 606 $aPolitical parties$zEurope, Eastern 606 $aPolitical parties$zEurope, Central 610 $aEastern Europe, Democracy, Media politics, Media regulation, Political parties, Postcommunism. 615 0$aJournalism 615 0$aJournalism 615 0$aFreedom of the press 615 0$aFreedom of the press 615 0$aCommunication in politics 615 0$aCommunication in politics 615 0$aPolitical parties 615 0$aPolitical parties 676 $a077 700 $aBajomi-La?za?r$b Pe?ter$01655095 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910816308003321 996 $aParty colonisation of the media in Central and Eastern Europe$94007299 997 $aUNINA
