It responds to the recent calls for police reform, in the wake of the perceived illegitimacy of police actions and the protection that the code of silence seems to provide to the police officers who violate the official rules. Using a case study of a medium-sized U.S. police agency, this book employs the lens of police integrity theory to provide empirically grounded explanations of the code of silence. It examines the potential effects of organizational factors and the attitudes of individual police officers on their willingness to adhere to the code of silence in cases of police corruption, the use of excessive force, interpersonal deviance, and organizational deviance. The book focuses on the following factors that could influence the police code of silence in the times of change: The impact of organizational rule dissemination, discipline, and disciplinary fairness on the scope of the code of silence The role organizational justice plays in shaping police officer willingness to report misconduct The effect that police officers? self-legitimacy has on their decisions to adhere to the code The influence of peer culture on individual police officer amenability to maintain the code The relationship between officers? views of themselves, the organization, and the community on their willingness to report misconduct 410 0$aSpringerBriefs in Criminology 606 $aCrime & criminology$2bicssc 610 $aPolice code of silence 610 $apolice integrity 610 $aPolice legitimacy 610 $apolice culture 610 $apolice misconduct 610 $aprocedural justice 610 $apolice reform 610 $adefund the police 610 $aOpen Access 615 7$aCrime & criminology 686 $aSOC004000$2bisacsh 700 $aKutnjak Ivkovi?$b Sanja$0612021 701 $aMaskály$b Jon$01239048 701 $aKule$b Ahmet$01239049 701 $aHaberfeld$b Maria (Maki)$01239050 801 0$bAU-PeEL 801 1$bAU-PeEL 801 2$bAU-PeEL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910558485603321 996 $aPolice Code of Silence in Times of Change$92875174 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02689nam 22004093a 450 001 9910831858603321 005 20250203235540.0 010 $a9783863096656 010 $a3863096657 024 8 $ahttps://doi.org/10.20378/irbo-54768 035 $a(CKB)4950000000290033 035 $a(ScCtBLL)c6659a00-a41a-4434-a967-6601454ac2eb 035 $a(Perlego)2327454 035 $a(EXLCZ)994950000000290033 100 $a20250203i20192021 uu 101 0 $aeng 135 $auru|||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aAbundant Life and Basic Needs : $eAfrican Religions as a Resource for Sustainable Development, with Special Reference to Shona Religion /$fBednicho Nyoni 210 1$a[s.l.] :$cBamberg University Press,$d2019. 215 $a1 online resource (1 p.) 225 1 $aBible in Africa Studies 330 $aIn Africa, religion shows no sign of disappearing or diminishing as development theorists have generally supposed. Africans have certain religious values which are sources of inspiration and strength. If incorporated, they can greatly contribute to development initiatives in their planning, implementation and monitoring stages. The book shows that Euro-Western development practitioners excluded consideration of the religious dimension in formulating development policies towards Africa resulted in failure of their development strategies. Furthermore, the book emphasized that once indigenous African religion is rehabilitated as an important concept and variable in the understanding and implementation of social change and progress, development strategies will be assured to be successful. Therefore, the incorporation of religion(s) of the indigenous peoples should be given the desired attention. Moreover, to buttress the importance of religion(s) of the indigenous peoples of Africa, the book presents African Shona Religion's voice in this discourse by using the indigenous Shona peoples, who live in Harare Province, in Seke Communal Area of Zimbabwe, as a case study for the sake of accuracy and critical analysis on the topic. Hence, despite its suffering from stereotyping, Shona religion continues to play a critical role in the life of the Zimbabweans. 410 $aBible in Africa Studies 606 $aSocial Science / Sociology of Religion$2bisacsh 606 $aSocial sciences 615 7$aSocial Science / Sociology of Religion 615 0$aSocial sciences. 700 $aNyoni$b Bednicho$01787697 801 0$bScCtBLL 801 1$bScCtBLL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910831858603321 996 $aAbundant Life and Basic Needs$94321278 997 $aUNINA
