The book highlights the gender differences in recorded criminality and the way that they were shaped by the local context. Women played a prominent role in recorded crime in this period, and could even make up half of all defendants in specific European cities. At the same time, there were also large regional differences. Women?s crime patterns in Frankfurt were both similar and different to those of other cities. Informal control within the household played a significant role and influenced the prosecution patterns of authorities. This impacted men and women differently, and created clear distinctions within the system between settled locals and unsettled migrants. 410 0$aCrime and city in history ;$v3. 606 $aFemale offenders$zGermany$zFrankfurt am Main$xHistory 606 $aCrime$zGermany$zFrankfurt am Main$xHistory 606 $aSocial control$zGermany$zFrankfurt am Main$xHistory 610 $aHistory 610 $aEarly modern history: c 1450/1500 to c 1700 615 0$aFemale offenders$xHistory. 615 0$aCrime$xHistory. 615 0$aSocial control$xHistory. 676 $a364.3/7094341640903 700 $aKamp$b Jeannette$01220659 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910558097303321 996 $aCrime, gender and social control in early modern Frankfurt am Main$92826581 997 $aUNINA
