For satellite ocean color to be reliable and used in these and other important environmental applications, the data must be trustworthy and high quality. Pre-flight and on-board calibration of satellite ocean color sensors is conducted; however, once in orbit, the data quality can only be fully assessed via independent calibration and validation activities using surface measurements. These measurements therefore need to be at least as high quality as the satellite data, which necessitates SI traceability and a full uncertainty budget. This is the basis for fiducial reference measurements (FRMs) and the FRM4SOC project, which was an European Space Agency (ESA) initiative to establish and maintain SI-traceable ground-based FRM for satellite ocean color, thus providing a fundamental contribution to the European system for monitoring the Earth (Copernicus). This Special Issue of MDPI Remote Sensing is designed to showcase this essential Earth observation work through the publication of the project?s main achievements and results accompanied by other select relevant articles. 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 610 $aVIIRS 610 $aSNPP 610 $aNOAA-20 610 $aDINEOF 610 $aocean color data 610 $adata merging 610 $agap-filling 610 $aocean color radiometers 610 $aradiometric calibration 610 $aindoor intercomparison measurement 610 $aagreement between sensors 610 $ameasurement uncertainty 610 $afield intercomparison measurement 610 $aHyperspectral reflectance 610 $avalidation 610 $aautonomous measurements 610 $aground-truth data 610 $asystem design 610 $adownwelling irradiance 610 $asatellite validation 610 $aFiducial Reference Measurements 610 $awater reflectance 610 $asatellite 610 $acalibration 610 $asolar diffusor 610 $aSDSM 610 $adesert trend 610 $alunar calibration 610 $aRVS 610 $aMODIS 610 $aAqua 610 $aocean color 610 $awater-leaving radiance 610 $aatmospheric correction 610 $aSentinel-3 OLCI 610 $aCopernicus 610 $aocean colour 610 $asystem vicarious calibration 610 $afiducial reference measurement 610 $aLampedusa 610 $aMOBY 610 $aMarONet 610 $aradiometry 610 $aresearch infrastructure 610 $auncertainty budget 610 $asatellite ocean colour 610 $afiducial reference measurements (FRM) 610 $acalibration and validation 610 $aSI traceability and uncertainty 610 $aEuropean Space Agency (ESA) 610 $aCommittee for Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) 610 $afiducial reference measurements 610 $aSI-traceability 610 $aMediterranean Sea 610 $aBOUSSOLE 610 $aMSEA 610 $ahyper-temporal dataset 610 $aoptical radiometry 610 $acoastal environment 610 $aobservation geometry 610 $aremote sensing reflectance 610 $aocean colour radiometers 610 $aTriOS RAMSES 610 $aSeabird HyperSAS 610 $afield intercomparison 610 $aAERONET-OC 610 $aAcqua Alta Oceanographic Tower 610 $aremote sensing 610 $aspectral irradiance comparison 610 $aspectral radiance sources comparison 615 7$aResearch & information: general 700 $aBanks$b Andrew Clive$4edt$01297579 702 $aLerebourg$b Christophe$4edt 702 $aRuddick$b Kevin$4edt 702 $aTilstone$b Gavin$4edt 702 $aVendt$b Riho$4edt 702 $aBanks$b Andrew Clive$4oth 702 $aLerebourg$b Christophe$4oth 702 $aRuddick$b Kevin$4oth 702 $aTilstone$b Gavin$4oth 702 $aVendt$b Riho$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557797803321 996 $aFiducial Reference Measurements for Satellite Ocean Colour$93024570 997 $aUNINA
