These ecosystems are degrading faster than they are regenerating, due to the increased demand for natural resources. In order to protect these ecosystems, the designation of Protected Areas (PAs) has become the primary policy tool for forest conservation. The articles included in this book explore challenges and opportunities within forest PAs, focusing on four main themes. The first theme refers to current initiatives in forest management across the world, reflecting the efforts of several organizations in halting deforestation. Major challenges are also identified, reflecting the declining rates of forest coverage across the world. A second theme refers to policy planning processes withing existing governance frameworks focusing, in particular, on the level of engagement of local stakeholders. A third theme of the book refers to social equity and how the impacts of forest PAs are distributed among different users. A final theme in the SI refers to potential solutions in order to halt the loss of biodiversity within forest ecosystems. Several directions are proposed by the authors that can be useful for policy makers and practitioners, especially in the context of the 30 by 30 targets. 517 $aProtected Areas in Forest Conservation 606 $aHumanities$2bicssc 606 $aSocial interaction$2bicssc 606 $aSocial & cultural anthropology, ethnography$2bicssc 610 $abiodiversity 610 $aecosystem services 610 $aWest Africa 610 $aincentives 610 $aSustainable Development Goals 610 $aparticipation 610 $aco-management 610 $aforest users 610 $abenefits 610 $aACA 610 $aNepal 610 $aurban forest 610 $ainstitutional design 610 $aland use planning 610 $aSerbia 610 $agovernance 610 $aforests 610 $aenvironment 610 $aMalawi 610 $aPhotovoice 610 $aconservation 610 $apolicy 610 $acommunity-based forest management 610 $aparticipatory forest management 610 $abiodiversity conservation 610 $anature conservation policy 610 $aoperational environment 610 $alegal 610 $aeconomic and social factors 610 $aevaluation framework 610 $aprotected areas 610 $aNatura 2000 network 610 $aconservation estate 610 $aconservation planning 610 $abottomland hardwood forest 610 $adeforestation 610 $aisolation 610 $abuffer areas 610 $aTanzania 610 $asocial network analysis (SNA) 610 $acooperation and conflict networks 610 $astakeholders' involvement 610 $aparticipatory process 610 $aNatura 2000 management Programme 610 $aanthropology 610 $aland use and access 610 $aflexibility 610 $aBakweri 610 $aMount Cameroon National Park 610 $areserve network 610 $alarge trees 610 $asnags 610 $acoarse woody debris 610 $aregression model 610 $ahabitat conditions 610 $astrict protection 610 $amanaged forests 610 $atree cover loss 610 $aglobal forest 610 $aState Forests 610 $anature protection 610 $afinancing 610 $adecision making 610 $aresponsibility 610 $aimplementation of protective measures 610 $aPoland 610 $asilviculture 610 $atimber distribution 610 $abenefit-sharing 610 $aelite 610 $acommunity forestry 610 $aabiotic dispersal 610 $aanimal dispersal 610 $adistance-decay 610 $aforest fragmentation 610 $asacred forest 610 $asacred grove 610 $aSouth Gondar Administrative Zone 610 $aconflict 610 $anational parks 610 $amanagement 610 $apandemic 610 $apublic health 610 $awellbeing 615 7$aHumanities 615 7$aSocial interaction 615 7$aSocial & cultural anthropology, ethnography 700 $aDimitrakopoulos$b Panayiotis$4edt$01319367 702 $aJones$b Nikoleta$4edt 702 $aDimitrakopoulos$b Panayiotis$4oth 702 $aJones$b Nikoleta$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557780903321 996 $aProtected Areas in Forest Conservation: Challenges and Opportunities$93033836 997 $aUNINA
