The many setbacks from the clinical trials of broad-spectrum MMP inhibitors for cancer indications in the late 1990s emphasized the extreme complexity of the participation of these proteolytic enzymes in biology. This editorial mini-review summarizes the Special Issue, which includes four review articles and 10 original articles that highlight the versatile roles of MMPs, ADAMs, and ADAMTSs, in normal physiology as well as in neoplastic and destructive processes in tissue. In addition, we briefly discuss the unambiguous involvement of MMPs in wound healing. 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 606 $aBiology, life sciences$2bicssc 610 $ahemagglutinin-B 610 $atranswell co-cultures 610 $amatrix metalloproteinases 610 $aTNF-? 610 $amatrix metalloproteinase 610 $aperitoneal mesothelial cell 610 $agastric cancer 610 $ametastatic dissemination 610 $aMT4-MMP 610 $acancer 610 $adiseases 610 $aaggrecan 610 $aaggrecanase 610 $aADAMTS 610 $acartilage 610 $aarthritis 610 $aMMP-2 610 $aMMP-9 610 $ainhibitor 610 $aallodynia 610 $acaspase-3 610 $aneuropathic 610 $apain 610 $adorsal root ganglion 610 $aspinal nerve ligation 610 $atuberculosis 610 $atuberculous meningitis 610 $aHIV-TB-associated IRIS 610 $aextracellular matrix breakdown 610 $aadult 610 $apediatric 610 $alung 610 $acentral nervous system 610 $amatrix-metalloproteinase 610 $amonocytes 610 $ainflammation 610 $aphagocytosis 610 $aapoptosis 610 $ablood sampling 610 $aanticoagulants 610 $ahigh-molecular-weight heparin 610 $aIL-16 610 $asICAM-1 610 $aIL-8 610 $aT cells 610 $aa disintegrin and metalloproteinase 610 $aEMMPRIN 610 $aCD147 610 $aectodomain shedding 610 $aMMPs 610 $aPTMs 610 $aglycosylation 610 $aphosphorylation 610 $aglycosaminoglycans 610 $ainterleukin 610 $aIL-6 610 $aIL-11 610 $atrans-signaling 610 $ametalloproteases 610 $aADAM 610 $aMMP 610 $ameprin 610 $amatrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) 610 $aprotease 610 $asignaling 610 $ainvasion 610 $achemokine 610 $acytokine 610 $aproteomics 610 $ainterferon 610 $aAgkistrodon venom 610 $ametalloproteinase 610 $afibrinogen 610 $aantithrombotic 610 $ametabolomics 610 $aextracellular matrix 610 $acytokines 610 $aproteinases 610 $ainterstitial collagens 610 $awound healing 615 7$aResearch & information: general 615 7$aBiology, life sciences 700 $aÅgren$b Magnus S$4edt$01309861 702 $aKeller$b Ulrich$4edt 702 $aÅgren$b Magnus S$4oth 702 $aKeller$b Ulrich$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557717203321 996 $aMatrix Metalloproteinase$93029672 997 $aUNINA
