Does France fear those defined as her others? Sarah Mazouz analyses a range of discourses and practices from the past fifteen years to address the French politics of alterity. Her study draws on an ethnographic fieldwork conducted in the antidiscrimination and naturalization services bureau of a Paris suburb to examine both boundaries (which affect racial minorities within the national group) and borders that distinguish between the national and the alien. Her main contribution is thus to articulate two policies that are paradigmatic of the way the relationship to minorities and foreigners has been conceptualized in France since the year 2000, and to show how the questions of immigration, nation and race intersect in French social space. By highlighting the focus on nation state borders instead of internal (racialized) boundaries, the book aims to grasp the paradoxical relationship of the French Republic to her others and the way it produces French national? 517 $aLA REPUBLIQUE ET SES AUTRES. It focuses on real-world lessons learned from managing common carp, bigheaded carp, sea lamprey, northern pike, and lake trout in different parts of the world. Articles also discuss damage caused by invasive fish, environmental DNA as means to measure spawning carp, and CO2 as a fish deterrent. Detailed critical evaluations of the possibility of using koi herpes virus to control common carp, market-driven fishing (invasivorism), as well as changes in lock and dam operating protocols to control bigheaded carps are also presented. Several important commonalities are noted between successful management efforts, including the simultaneous use of multiple integrated strategies, a focus on suppressing reproduction, and a deep local knowledge in an introductory article that provides context for the discipline. 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 610 $aacoustic deterrent 610 $aadaptive management 610 $aalien fish 610 $aaquatic invasive species 610 $aAsian carp 610 $aAustralia 610 $aavoidance 610 $abehavior 610 $abigheaded carp 610 $abiocontrol 610 $abiodiversity 610 $abiotelemetry 610 $acommercial fishing 610 $acommon carp 610 $aconservation 610 $acutthroat trout 610 $acyprinid herpesvirus 3 610 $aCyprinus carpio 610 $adiet 610 $aecosystem restoration 610 $aeDNA 610 $aefficacy 610 $aeradication 610 $aexploitative competition 610 $afishery restoration 610 $afyke net 610 $agrowth 610 $ahydraulic 610 $aHypophthalmichthys 610 $aichthyoplankton 610 $aIllinois River 610 $aincursion 610 $aintegrated pest control 610 $aintegrated pest management 610 $ainterference competition 610 $ainvasive 610 $ainvasive fish 610 $ainvasive species 610 $ainvasivorism 610 $aLake Champlain 610 $aLake Crescent 610 $aLake Sorell 610 $alake trout 610 $alampricide 610 $amicro-predators 610 $amodel 610 $amodelling 610 $anational park 610 $anative species recovery 610 $anonnative fish suppression 610 $anorthern pike 610 $aOncorhynchus 610 $apest fish 610 $aphysiology 610 $apopulation suppression 610 $apredatory fish invasion 610 $areservoir ecosystems 610 $arisks 610 $arotenone 610 $aruffe 610 $asafety 610 $asalmon 610 $aSalvelinus 610 $asea lamprey 610 $asource-sink 610 $asuppression 610 $asustainable 610 $atoxicity 610 $atrophic cascade 610 $awater quality 610 $awilderness preserve 610 $ayellow perch 615 7$aResearch & information: general 700 $aSorensen$b Peter$4edt$0381389 702 $aSorensen$b Peter$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557713403321 996 $aBiology and Control of Invasive Fishes$93036044 997 $aUNINA
