Due to the limited regenerative capabilities of terminally differentiated cardiomyocytes post injury, new strategies to treat cardiac patients are urgently needed. Post myocardial injury, resident fibroblasts begin to generate the extracellular matrix, resulting in fibrosis, and finally, cardiac failure. Recently, preclinical investigations and clinical trials raised hope in stem cell-based approaches, to be an effective therapy option for these diseases. So far, several types of stem cells have been identified to be promising candidates to be applied for treatment: cardiac progenitor cells, bone marrow derived stem cells, embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells, as well as their descendants. Furthermore, the innovative techniques of direct cardiac reprogramming of cells offered promising options for cardiovascular research, in vitro and in vivo. Hereby, the investigation of underlying and associated mechanisms triggering the therapeutic effects of stem cell application is of particular importance to improve approaches for heart patients. This Special Issue of Cells provides the latest update in the rapidly developing field of regenerative medicine in cardiology. 606 $aBiology, life sciences$2bicssc 606 $aResearch and information: general$2bicssc 610 $a18F-FDG PET 610 $a3D model 610 $a3D printing 610 $aadult stem cells 610 $aAkt signaling 610 $aangiogenesis 610 $aarrhythmia 610 $abig conductance calcium activated potassium channel (BK) 610 $abiomarker 610 $abiomaterials 610 $abioprinting 610 $abioreactor 610 $abiostable polyurethane 610 $abone marrow stem cells 610 $acardiac cellular regeneration 610 $acardiac differentiation 610 $acardiac function 610 $acardiac hypertrophy 610 $acardiac induced cells 610 $acardiac progenitor cells 610 $acardiac regeneration 610 $acardiac reprogramming 610 $acardiac tissue engineering 610 $acardiomyocyte proliferation 610 $acardiomyocytes 610 $acardioprotection 610 $acardiovascular disease 610 $acardiovascular diseases 610 $acardiovascular medicine 610 $acoronary heart disease 610 $aCRISPR/Cas9 genomic editing 610 $adecorin 610 $adirect reprogramming 610 $adisease model 610 $adrug/toxicity screening 610 $aelectrocardiography 610 $aelectrospinning 610 $aendothelial progenitor cells 610 $aendothelialization 610 $aESC 610 $aFabry disease 610 $afibronectin 610 $afield potential 610 $agenetic engineering 610 $aheart 610 $aheart valves 610 $ahuman embryonic stem cells 610 $ahuman induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) 610 $ahuman pluripotent stem cell 610 $ahypertrophic cardiomyopathy 610 $aiberiotoxin 610 $ainduced pluripotent stem cells 610 $ainflammation 610 $aiPS cells 610 $aiPSC 610 $aKCa1.1 610 $aleukocytes 610 $along QT syndrome 610 $aMass spectrometry proteomic analysis 610 $amaturation 610 $aMaxi-K 610 $aMEA 610 $amesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) 610 $ameta-analysis 610 $amicro-electrode-array 610 $aMicroRNA 610 $amicroRNA (miR) 610 $aMir-133 610 $amiRNA 610 $amRNA 610 $amulti-electrode-array 610 $amyocardial infarction 610 $amyocardial infraction 610 $amyocarditis 610 $amyocardium 610 $anon-invasive imaging 610 $aphysical exercise 610 $aPSC 610 $aregeneration 610 $aslo1 610 $astem cells 610 $atissue engineering 610 $atransdifferentiation 610 $avascular graft 610 $aventricular 615 7$aBiology, life sciences 615 7$aResearch and information: general 700 $aDavid$b Robert$4edt$0395764 702 $aDavid$b Robert$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557701803321 996 $aStem Cell Research on Cardiology$93039488 997 $aUNINA
