This Gram-negative diplococcus is highly infective due to its virulence factors: pili, Por proteins, Opa proteins, Rmp proteins, lipooligosaccharides and IgA protease. Despite existing guidelines for its treatment, the incidence of the disease follows an increasing trend worldwide. This is mainly due to the appearance of antibiotic-resistant strains, inefficient diagnostic methods and poor sexual education. Without an effective vaccine available, the key priorities for the control of the disease include sexual education, contact notification, epidemiological surveillance, diagnosis and effective antibiotic treatment. This Special Issue focuses on some of these important issuesm such as the molecular mechanisms of the disease, diagnostic tests and different treatment strategies used to combat gonorrhea. 606 $aMedicine$2bicssc 610 $aNeisseria gonorrhoeae 610 $agonorrhea 610 $aantimicrobial resistance 610 $aciprofloxacin resistance 610 $aprecision treatment 610 $aNeisseria species 610 $aNeisseria meningitidis 610 $acommensal 610 $apathogenesis 610 $ahost adaptation 610 $adiagnostic 610 $amicroscopy 610 $aculture 610 $aNAAT 610 $apoint-of-care test 610 $amicrofluidic 610 $aHDAC 610 $ainfection 610 $aepigenetic 610 $aH3K9ac 610 $amacrophage 610 $asurvival 610 $acytokines 610 $achemokines 610 $aAMR 610 $aNeisseria meningitides 610 $acommensal Neisseria 610 $aNeisseria 610 $ameningitidis 610 $akissing 610 $asharing 610 $amicrobiome 610 $atransmission 610 $asexually transmitted infection 610 $adiagnosis 610 $aantibiotic treatment 615 7$aMedicine 700 $aPérez-Gracia$b María-Teresa$4edt$01277992 702 $aSuay-García$b Beatriz$4edt 702 $aPérez-Gracia$b María-Teresa$4oth 702 $aSuay-García$b Beatriz$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557623303321 996 $aNeisseria gonorrhoeae Infections$93012356 997 $aUNINA
