Its current growth trajectory suggests that the size of its economy could soon surpass that of the United States. Some argue that continued growth and the expanding middle class will ultimately exert pressure on the government to bring about greater openness of the financial market. To better understand China's recent economic performance, this volume examines the distinctive system it has developed: "market socialism with Chinese characteristics." While its formal institutional makeup resembles that of a free-market economy, many of its practices remain socialist, including strategically placed state-owned enterprises that wield influence both directly and through controlled business groups, and Communist Party cells whose purpose is to maintain control of many segments of the economy. China's economic system, the contributors find, also retains many historical characteristics that play a central role in managing the economy. These and other issues are examined in chapters on China's financial regulations, corporate governance codes, bankruptcy laws, taxation, and disclosure rules. 410 0$aNBER-Conference Report 606 $aMixed economy$zChina 607 $aChina$xEconomic conditions$y1976-2000 607 $aChina$xEconomic conditions$y2000- 607 $aChina$xEconomic policy$y1976-2000 607 $aChina$xEconomic policy$y2000- 615 0$aMixed economy 676 $a330.951 701 $aFan$b Joseph P. These disasters not only include the most common natural disasters, but also include man-made disasters, such as public health, accident disasters, etc., which have caused greater damage to human society and cities. Because of the limitations of a single government-led model in emergency response, the emergency preparedness of communities, families and individuals are more important. In particular, the emergency preparedness psychology and behavior of individuals directly determine whether or not they can effectively protect themselves and their families in the first time of disaster. This Special Issue focuses on environmental disasters and individuals' emergency preparedness in the perspective of psychology and behavior. 517 $aEnvironmental Disasters and Individuals’ Emergency Preparedness 517 $aEnvironmental Disasters and Individuals?
